Story
On a snowy winter evening in 1982, 21-year-old Mary Brown accepted a ride from a handsome stranger in the resort town of Breckenridge, Colorado. The trip ended with her brutally beaten and raped. Mary survived, but her predator's violence had only just begun. After 10 years in prison, Tom Luther was released a far more vicious criminal. Soon, from the Rockies to West Virginia, like Ted Bundy, Luther enticed a chain of women into his murderous trap.

Story
In 1985, Charles Ng and Leonard Lake were spotted shoplifting. Ng escaped, but Lake's capture led police to a concrete bunker in the Sierra Nevada foothills, where they discovered the grisly evidence of an orgy of sex crimes, torture, and murder that claimed at least 16 victims. Lake committed suicide: Ng fled to Canada, where he was tracked down and extradited to California. This 14-year, $10 million legal case was the costliest and longest criminal prosecution in California history.

Story
The horrific and disturbing nature of these stories often makes you question everything you thought or believed about humanity. Yet they are engaging and fascinating at the same time. We all had evil thoughts throughout our lives. What is it that makes us different from those who actually act upon it? Is it the act alone? These are questions that many ask themselves, and these stories will help dig into the elements and psychology behind some of the most terrifying killers in history.

Don Miller was quiet and reserved. As a former youth pastor, he seemed a devout Christian. No one would have ever suspected that the recent graduate of the Michigan State University School of Criminal Justice was a serial killer. However, when Miller was arrested for the attempted murder of two teenagers in 1978, police quickly realized he was probably responsible for the disappearances of four women. Offered a still-controversial plea bargain, he led police to the bodies of the missing women. Now, after 40 years in prison, Miller has served his time.

hard to review
The difficulty with reviewing a book like this is that hopefully nobody is purchasing to be entertained and i dont want to be disrespectful to the people who were so dreadfully murdered however I can't tell you whether the crimes described are not particularly interesting or if the soporific narrator is responsible. Either way i wouldnt waste your money/credit

"...A spectacular thrill ride...with lots of action, danger, hold-your-breath suspense.. "The pacing is flawless, building steadily to a riveting climax. The characters are complex, and chilling This is one of the best of many Killer /Thrillers I've enjoyed listening to. Great narration (challenging given the scope of characters'). A terrifyingly intensity infused listen.

Gary C. King; True Crime Master
Any additional comments?
This true crime compilation absolutely lives up to the expectations I have for Gary C. King. I usually prefer longer true crime stories that really get into the details, but King does a good job in this series giving just enough detail without dragging the stories out. There are some stories that involve children, so I would warn anyone who is sensitive to violence against children from listening to this one. With every true crime book I hear, I am further awed by how incredible forensic science is. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys true crime or anyone who is interested in forensic science!

Good Mix of Stories
Would you listen to Crime Scene again? Why?
I might, in several years, when I have forgotten the details of most of the cases. Since it's a book of many cases, most of which I was not familiar with (at least in detail), I can see myself listening to it again once it's been long enough to forget the names and specifics of the crimes. Of course there are a couple of huge cases, like Dahmer, that everyone knows about, that most people know at least some details about...but even there, there are always a few details I forget after a while. So eventually, yes, I can see myself listening to this book again.
What did you like best about this story?
I like listening to the different stories and trying to see if I remember hearing about them in the press or the media at any point. If they happened before I was born, I like to see if I remember seeing a true-crime program done on the case. In other words, I enjoy trying to figure out if the details of of any given case are familiar to me. Unfortunately, that's what I like about all of these type of crime anthologies, so it's not specific to this book, but it *is* what I liked best about it.
What I like best about this specific book was the detail given in the cases. Some try to hedge around unpleasant details, but in this book, they were stated as fact. Which they are.
What about Dan Orders’s performance did you like?
In this book, Dan Orders, performance was fine. It was flowing and matched the writing and didn't lag at all. I didn't find myself distracted or find my mind wandering. It sounded natural and the pace was normal. I also feel that the writing in this book was better than in the other book I have reviewed by the same author and narrator, so that was a help to the narrator as well, and allowed him to return a better performance. This book just seemed to flow a little better for some reason, although I haven't been able to pinpoint it.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Actually no. It's a perfect book for commuting. Especially given the fact that it's broken down into individual cases. I listened to it on my dives to and from work and other places when I was alone in the car, and I very much enjoyed it that way. It's a solid book, and if you enjoy true crime stories, then there certainly cases in this book that you should experience.

Another gruesome, true crime book by Gary C. King
Would you listen to Crime Scene again? Why?
I'm sure I will listen to this again at some point. I like true crime books and Gary is one of the best true crime authors.
What other book might you compare Crime Scene to and why?
This is much like Gary's other books I have listened to.
What does Dan Orders bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Dan's narration started out a little slow for me but after listening for a while it got better. His voice is clear, deep and easy to listen to for this type of book.
If you could give Crime Scene a new subtitle, what would it be?
"Gruesome stories of twisted, cold blooded killers"
Any additional comments?
Of the few Gary C. King books I have listened to, I like this one the best. He gives good, clear information making the stories easy to understand. He lets you know exactly what happened leading up to and during the crimes and what the consequences were. Pretty Decent
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This was a pretty decent true crime audiobook. It did feel like it was centred around Oregon, so I definitely learnt something because I knew literally nothing about Oregon before listening to this book. Most of the cases discussed in this book were not well known, and I hadn't heard about them from other true crime books, so it felt quite refreshing to listen to this book.
My main gripe with this book was the narrator who spoke quite slowly. I normally listen at 1.5x speed, but I had to listen to this book on 2.5x speed instead.
