When Jorie's writing gets uncomfortably close to the truth, Griffin is sent to investigate and, if necessary, kill the author to protect the secrets of her kind. Sutton Spencer's ideas for her life were fairly simple: finish graduate school and fall in love. It would be a lot simpler if she could pinpoint exactly what she should do when she graduates in less than a year. Oh, and if she could figure out how to talk to a woman without feeling like a total mess, that would be great, too. Charlotte Thompson is very much the opposite.

Summary
Riley Dawson is a psychotherapist with a lycanthropic affliction. She’s a werecoyote, to be precise.
A foundling adopted by wealthy parents, Riley led a privileged life until she fell in love with Fiona Bell, an evangelical preacher’s daughter. Raging hormones, the full moon, and the pull of Fiona Bell on her teenage heartstrings triggered her first transformation. Unfortunately, her parents witnessed the change and sent her off to college with a trust fund and an agreement never to return home.
Twenty years later, Riley shares a lucrative therapy practice with Dr. Margaret Spencer. Margaret, her wife, and her gay brother-in-law are the only ones who know Riley’s secret. Afraid of risking exposure, Riley restricts her love life to online hookups. But when a family is referred for treatment and Fiona Bell comes back into her life, all the rules of the client-therapist relationship are tested and Riley’s world is turned upside down.

Eh
As another review said this book is drawn out to the extreme. Normally I love it when author's decide to expand on details about their character's and world, but this is very much a case of extraneous details for details sake and nothing else. The supermatural elements of the story don't add much of anything other than some nice window dressing as well as a reason for the MC to care about animals. The author does an excellent job at selling you on the romance of it all however, and so even if you have to wade through a lot of unnecessary chapters to get to it it is definitely this book's strong point. And I have to say I do like the way in which the MC is written as she is enjoyable to follow and fleshed out well.
SPOILERS
I really dislike how little time was spent on dealing with the aftermath of the murder however. For a book so interested in explaining phsycological theory, the almost non-existent time spent dwelling on what she did and the effect it might have had on her is jarring to say the least. Also the fact we dont know whether she ever tells Fiona or not is baffling to me, considering there's no way that sort of secret wouldn't cause some sort of friction or self doubt. Saying this I've never killed someone haha so maybe I'm talking nonsense, but still for a book with such a long runtime I'd have wished some of the time spent explaining about halloween parties ext was spent instead on dealing with these issues.

Just love it
I have read the book multiple times, but to listen to it just makes the story come full circle and complete. The story is powerful , extremely well written and narrated. The theme is very real today unfortunately. Domestic violence reporting is at its highest in many states since this current federal administration, along with the string of global warming disasters that seems to bring out the worst in folks, rather than the opposite.
This story bring a real hopeful thought to the process and that folks will stand-up and reach out to help one another, maybe to the extreme of this story, but its a message that it is too easy to ge trapped in the cycle of abuse while you think you are doing your all to survive.
I hope the author make a sequel , maybe a novella just to push them and eddy along a few years down the road , maybe as Edy is ready to go off to college and Fiona gets her wild life sanctuary,

Great paranormal romance book
The characters are rich and well developed. The were aspect is actually addressed. While this is a romance, it is NOT over seed or soft porn. There is an actual plot.
The subject matter in this book can be intense and I would warn anyone who has trouble with domestic violence situations.
Overall great book and I see myself listening to this one again.

Personally wouldn’t recommend
While I thought the book was alright I liked the story kind of but it also had some major issues I didnt like. One issue being that I wish it has some type of trigger warning with the mentions of cutting and suicidal thoughts and abuse I wasnt necessarily prepared for such heavy topics to be thrown in, another issue was the amount of Christianity that felt very preachy, I really didn’t need to listen to at least 30 minutes of the debate on animals souls in the Bible, it in no way progressed the story line. There was also this weird thing with lesbian stereotypes and I don’t like the Native American culture depicted in this story especially since I am unsure if the author is even part of said culture the pow wow and Pocahontas jokes and what I’m assuming is a way to tie the idea of a shape shifter into a spiritual reasoning didn’t sit well with me. The overall lack of POC representation combined with making a white presenting woman be mixed and with no other Native American people in the story just felt sloppy in narration. I only finished because by the half way point I had already invested all this time.

A lesbian book that doesn't seem for lesbians
This book barely focuses on the romance or paranormal in favor of huge portions preaching Christianity, and psychology. There are several times where the book stops to describe the physical characteristics of a very sexy (?) man. Entire chapters dedicated to psychology lessons, okay, I can handle that, but the several parts that are just how great God is for like 45 minutes... the author wrote poc in a clumsy way that seemed like she'd never met one, she couldn't seem to decide between "Native American, American Indian, Indigenous" swapping between them constantly. There was a section that was literally just an ad for how great Amazon is (maybe she got a publishing discount?). There was so much focus on religion and other stuff I forgot it was about a werewolf most of the time. I could probably go on forever but it's clear I was not the demographic for this book I suppose.

Great story with a great narrator…
This is a great paranormal second-chance romance between Riley (werecoyote) and her first love (Fiona) who is now trapped in a dangerous abusive marriage.
There were parts of this story that included in-class lectures about things like sociopaths and psychopaths that worked so well within this story.
This book had me on the edge of my seat and the chemistry between Riley & Fiona really worked.
Much of the abuse is off the pages, but not all, so be prepared for some darkness too.

“As the Crow Flies.” I loved it! What a great plot. This read was hard for me to walk away from as life’s daily routine called. I caught myself thinking about the characters and what might happen next. The parallels and similarities, story structure and twists, in just the right amounts.
The sensual romantic buildups, the honesty of each character. This read will not disappoint.

Great story with minor issues (spoiler free)
What I really liked about this story was how the author painted the world. I really felt like I could see everything that was happening in the story, watching the characters interact. I also really appreciated the brief lesson on Social Work vs Psychology, it's nice learning new things while experiencing a story. The narrator was great too, love her voice. I'm also glad that this wasn't just a straight up porno. The author easily could have made this into (a pretty darn good) porn if she wished, but the story isn't about the adult content and I like that.
This novel does have its issues though. My two main issues are the lack of believability in some of the characters and the amount of religion that got shoved in my face. A lot of the characters; minor and major, respond a bit abnormally to the situations presented, to the point that some don't feel like real people in their own world (the main character doesn't have this issue though). Besides that, there is a fair amount of religion that gets shoved in there, and it doesn't even feel like the religion chosen meshes with the story well. I feel like the author should have been more true to her characters instead of trying to fit her own religion into it.
Nonetheless, I really did enjoy this story and recommend this to anyone that likes the idea of non-angsty lesbian werewolves and wont mind a little preaching.

Absurdly good book
Absolutely awesome story, can't recommend enough. Theres some intense scenes of domestic violence sprinkled in there so be warned on that. Some other reviewers here mention that the book is long or has a lot of superfluous dialogue, but disregard that nonsense they don't seem to know what characterization is.
