About this listen

Alex Maguire never thought he'd go home again. The perfect soldier, the perfect leader, he's spent his whole life running away from Blue Valley, Montana - but when a tragic accident bounces him and two of his men out of the SEALs, there's nowhere left to turn but the ranch he used to call his own...and the confusing, innocently beguiling woman who now lives there.

Becca Denton's like nothing he could have imagined. She's far too tempting for her own good, but when she offers to help turn the ranch into a haven for injured veterans, he can't exactly say no. He'll just need to keep his distance. But something in her big green eyes makes Alex want to set aside the mantle of the perfect soldier and discover the man he could have been...safe and whole within the shelter of her arms.

Contains mature themes.

The romance elements were secondary to the denial preventing the recognition of PTSD. The friendships and unconditional acceptance of the person with all their broken and changed traits due to trauma, were the core of the story.
Such an important subject matter, and a great story, but I feel the narration wasn't suited to representing the characters and their experiences. The narration was too 'jolly', and although this suited the humorous exchanges between the characters, it undermined the serious and most important point of the story. It was difficult to realise the seriousness of the core subject when being narrated in such a bland tone, and general lack of genuine appreciation of PTSD. A shame really, as I'm put off from listening to book two. Sorry!!

Great insight to the impact of PTSD

I am two thirds of the way through this and am thinking of giving up. The story so far has only been about the relationships between the 3 men and the heroine. The haven has been very much ignored. so far all we know is that the bunk house has new windows and is taking a long time to repair, this through conversation not through any description of the actual work. One review says this book is setting the scene for a series I think using a whole book to do this without much story is asking too much of the reader. The description gives a wrong impression of the style of this book.

not what I expected from the description
