About this listen

Consequences is a cautionary tale about the evils of hasty judgment, revisiting Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and one of those pivotal moments when Elizabeth Bennet throws away Mr. Darcy's offer of marriage so decisively. What transpires from that point is well-known to Austen's extensive readership, but what if even one element in the chain of events in her novel turns out differently? Does Austen's happy ending eventually come to pass, or is the outcome more bleak?

And if, in order to secure financial security for her loved ones, Elizabeth does not reject Darcy, is she married to a proud, arrogant, disdainful man who, as she feared, forces her to deny her own relatives and thus condemns her to a lifetime of misery? Or does she find herself married to a man who cares enough for her to reject the opposition of his family and chance his very standing in society in order to marry a woman he loves beyond measure?

Consequences, written by the author of A Most Civil Proposal, explores two alternate realities - both tragedy and triumph.

A thoroughly enjoyable and unusual plot with most interesting character development.

Very well narrated.

Highly recommended. I like this author a lot.

An excellent, well written story.

I was quite disappointed by this variation. The first half is frankly miserable; the total opposite of why I like (usually) to listen to P&P variations. This is such a shame as the idea of a “Sliding Doors” plot exploration has such potential. The narration was also a bit disappointing; not as bad as some of the ghastly ones with Americans trying to feign British accents, but markedly below the excellence of Stevie Z or Harry Frost. I shall not be listening again.

First half is miserable!!

As a new reader to CP Odom's books, I am going through his books in short order and have loved them all so far. Was unsure of the premise of this one, but after reading / listening to it several times, it is an unusual storyline. For those readers who expressed disappointment at the storyline and gave it a low rating, you do need to read or listen ALL of it. It is clear that it is in two parts and there is a great HEA! It is very sad at the start, yes but persevere, it is a well written story of two halves. Neil McFarlane is by far my favourite P&P narrator, I do like others too but he is my absolute favourite Darcy in this and in the other books he has narrated. I hope he will narrate more P&P books soon please.

Another great story with great narration

The story I listened to does not reflect the description or the reviews but is by far the laziest and worst variation I’ve listened to or of any I’ve read. Spoiler Alert: Lydia found and remains in the brothel. Order of deaths…Charlotte and child at birth, Mr Bennett from illness. Family evicted and settlement stolen. Mrs Bennett dies, then Kitty, Mary and the Philips from the pox. Jane dies from lung fever, then the Gardiners leaving just Lizzy in service. Darcy and Lizzy meet up at the ages of 60 and 52 I can’t go on.

Very Disappointing ❣️
