Summary

At least one in five adults in the US experiences some form of mental illness every year - a clear indication that the number of Americans who are battling mental illnesses is on an upward trajectory. This reality has called upon various methods of treatment, but none seems as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy.

CBT is a method of treatment that embraces the best aspects of both talk therapy and behavioral therapy. It has been exceedingly successful because it offers a lot of flexibility and the results are long-lasting - a stark contrast to most other forms of treatments such as medication, which can be rigid, expensive, and not to mention cyclical.

According to CBT practitioners, behaviors, thoughts, and feelings are intertwined. A person’s feelings are informed by their perceptions, which might be accurate or distorted. Hence, CBT steps in to expose cognitive distortions and promote positive thoughts, thus effectively restoring mental health.

This audiobook makes a foray into cognitive behavioral therapy and enlightens us on how CBT is helping alleviate various mental health conditions.

Great one!!

It provides the tools to help identify the mental challenges that hold us back from living our best life. I suffer from anxiety and stress and since becoming a parent I have dealt with intrusive thoughts and self doubt.

A waste of 2 hours

A waste of 2 hours if you're looking for a book that might help you. if you're learning CBT as a practitioner you may as well read the index and or a decent CBT manual. All this does is describe what circumstances CBT is used in and doesn't provide any technique. The narrator is terrible as well. Complete waste of time.

This audible is one of the best!

This book helps you to understand and take action when it comes to unwanted negative thoughts and feelings. I love the "Chapter Summary and Homework" sections because they turn each topic into steps you work on right away.

This audio book is really awesome!

I particularly appreciate the care he takes in addressing nuances to our experiences. I strongly recommend this book as a standalone resource for the “walking worried,” as a supplement to those currently working with a therapist, and as a primer to mental health practitioners who do not use CBT.

I highly recommend this audio book

I liked it. I have been going through CBT to deal with some anxiety and this gave me a greater understanding of why we do certain activities and exercises certain ways and it really has helped me get the most of my sessions.

I found this book truly inspiring and helpful. William E Joyce telling an easy to follow self help guide to mastering the benefits of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The idea behind CBT is that you can change your thoughts and therefore improve your reaction to emotions that you cannot change in situations, helping you with anxiety, stress, and depression to name a few.

This is a very easy and clear book

The author explained specifically and clearly the techniques in overcoming fear. I was not familiar with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) until I read this book. It provides an excellent introduction of the basic principles behind this therapy. I appreciate how the step by step awareness to change the mindset is well explained.

It explains almost everything you needed

I would highly recommend this book to others looking to change their minds for the better-we cannot change our chemicals but we CAN learn to override the trouble they can cause to a point and this book really helps with that. I have children with these issue and I can see working with them to teach them these skills and help them get their own issues under control.
