Summary

Three decades after The Baby-Sitters Club first rocked our world—like scoring your own phone line, in your room!—the beloved franchise is back to binge (and share) like never before!

In the most exciting news since we first learned of Kristy Thomas’s great idea to start the Baby-Sitters Club, the book series is now available only from Audible as an audio experience with special guest narrator Elle Fanning, the multi-talented actress and fan of BSC.

With endearing characters and enduring storylines filled with lessons of self-discovery, the beauty of true friendship, and the power of youth-led entrepreneurship itself, the BSC has never felt more now. So, whether you’re joining the club for the first time, or the first time in quite a while, spend time with stories that transcend the ages. Gather up the kids—not to mention those nieces, nephews, and neighbors alike—for all the twists, turns, hilarity, and burns of tween life in Stoneybrook, Connecticut!

Being a good baby-sitter isn't always easy, and the vice-president of the Baby-Sitters Club, Claudia Kishi, is learning that the hard way. She and the other club members have started getting strange calls on the job. Is it the Phantom Caller, a jewel thief who's been breaking into houses in the area? One thing is certain—the Club has to take action to protect their kids!

Great book

This was amazing! The storyline had a great mystery throughout the book and I itching to find out who the phantom caller was. I loved Elle Fanning’s expression and I think she makes a great Claudia. Definitely a great listen.

Spooky BSC fun

When I was a child, I loved the Babysitters Club books. I devoured them. I read those, along with the Super Specials, Mysteries, Little Sister book, etc. In fact, I still have all of them to this day in paperback. They were such a big part of my love of reading, I could not part with them. So now that they have come out on Audiobook, I had to check them out. As it turns out, I am not too old to enjoy them. It kind of felt like going home again. Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls is book 2 in the Baby-sitters Club series. In this book, there is a bit of mystery and some suspense. This is perfect as a Halloween read. There is a burglar that has been dubbed the Phantom Caller by authorities and the media. The burglar makes several calls to the houses he robs before he breaks in. Some of the BSC girls have started to receive calls while babysitting and no one is on the line. They have to figure out the best way to stay safe and what to do in case of an emergency. This book is a quick listen and is only 2 hours and 50 minutes. The narrator was good. She is believable as a 12 year old girl. I still love the nostalgia and am ready to listen to book 3!

A good Halloween listen.

Claudia was my favorite member of the BSC. I identified with her the most as a girl because we both loved art, junk food, and were not very good spellers.  This was a fun and nostalgic listen for October.  It is set around Halloween and any of the scenes where the girls were baby sitting and the house was making noises were creepy-comedic.  The end though, I didn't like (and I had forgotten) that the caller was a boy from school who liked Kristy. It was a bad lesson for to reward his bad behavior. On some level you have to excuse the ending because it was written in 1986. It would never be written that way today because now we know better, or at least we should.   I did love how the girls made a plan for what to do if the actual burglar were to attack while they were baby-sitting, and I did love how smart Claudia was at the end when calling the police.  4 out of 5 Creepy House Noises.

Male reader, delving into popular kids books...

It was a cute story and Elle Fanning did a great job with this reading. I felt like she was one of the characters "babysitting" me at times. Lol My only gripe is that I kinda wished that they kept the story exactly the same as it's original release from the older books. But the parts that were omitted from the story weren't at all vital to it. They were just pop culture references that were popular of that decade. If I hadn't read along with my 90s published paperback edition, I would have missed those nostalgic points. I was a kid of the 80s, so it was fun for me to relate to the author and it's characters in that way. This is also my first time reading this series.

A good ol' mystery

Nice break from formula. Love mystery novels. The only issue with this one was it jumped from POV to POV, so, it wasn't easy figuring out who was who, but, a fine book all around.

More than nostalgia...

I decided to give The Babysitters Club books a listen primarily for the nostalgia factor, and they definitely deliver on that front, but they’re surprisingly enjoyable in their own right too. I loved these stories as a pre-teen and young teenager but haven’t read them in well over a decade. They are definitely made for the 8-12 age range but the characters are surprisingly well developed and the plots, while simple, are engaging. I’ve found Kristy’s Great Idea and Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls to be funny, lighthearted and even heartwarming to a certain extent. Elle Fanning does a nice job narrating. It took me a while to adjust to her voice, rather than hearing my own in my head, but ultimately the pace, tone, and inflections are all on target. I would 100% recommend these audio books to anyone who enjoyed the stories as a child, or to anyone aged 8-12 who likes audio books about friendship and mystery and school drama, or to adults looking for quick, lighthearted, family friendly stories.
