I loved this story. a beautiful tale about complex families. took a minute to get used to the spoken word style of the book but once I did it was like listening to music.

I adored this audiobook, well delivered. It's a modern fairytale about sisterhood set in a poignant told tale about grief and belonging.

I was istracted by the incongruity of characters using tablets and social media in 2001

Loved this unusual and unique story but

At first, I got a few chapters into this book and thought about returning it. It's a difficult story, with palpable anger and grief. The narration is great at showing the anger the characters feel, not just about discovering the secrets of their father, but also at the world around them. There are details about the plane crash, and what might be left of the victims (but nothing gory) and all in all, I thought about giving up because of the heavy subject matter.

I took some time away, and returned to the book. It was the best decision, because the way the story develops was so worth it.

It took me a long time to realise the two narrators were sisters... and I loved the way their stories interweave, the way their sisterhood grows, the moment the women come together to make El Cero run with his tail between his legs...

The real struggles faced by someone who loves their homeland and wants the best for it in a world where we still have to deal with the leftovers of colonisation. The pain of leaving said homeland. The inclusion of Santería was also beautifully done. And I loved it when both narrators overlapped or took turns in one scene, such beautiful story telling.

Overall, I'm so touched by Clap When You Land and its complex characters and portrayal of Latin culture.

It's my second book by Elizabeth Acevedo, and I had been looking for more stories centered around Latin American characters and can't wait to see what she does next.
