About this listen
Matching wits with a serial killer is so much more than Dwayne Morrow bargained for. Can he stop the murderer before losing someone he loves?
Surviving the events of his high-school reunion has forever changed Dwayne Morrow. Intrigued with the idea of private investigation, he has barely begun to examine the possibilities when a workplace acquaintance offers a prime opportunity for practical experience—her husband is cheating, and she wants proof.
What should have been simple surveillance goes off the rails when Dwayne stumbles across the latest victim of a maniac who is terrorizing Central Ohio. As the media spotlight shifts toward Dwayne, so does the killer’s unwanted attention.
The murderer is closing in, and for Dwayne, uncovering the truth is a matter of survival.
Circumvention is the second adrenaline rush in the Dwayne Morrow Mystery series!
©2021 Darin Miller (P)2025 Darin MillerAs I have said previously, being from the UK, I find it hard to read books set in the States and imagine the characters with authentic voices. The narrator here does a truly excellent job, bringing it to life. I again really felt as though I had landed in the story as a result and it almost played out cinematically in my head. That's unusual for me!
As with the last book, at times I had something like the Reacher books/TV series in my mind, a kind of similar vibe in some ways. Dwayne Morrow is though an ordinary guy who is attempting to become an amateur detective. He is so out of his depth at times it was almost comical, but he muddles through. Some of his choices are just ridiculous, but not unbelievably so, just that you almost end up screaming at him to not be such an idiot in certain circumstances! Really well written!
As with the first book, this is the easiest of five stars for me, helped in no small part by the excellent narrator, who is now near perfect. My only slight criticism with the first book was that some of his female voices were perhaps a little overdone, but it didn't detract to any great degree. However, with this book they felt much more realistic.
The writing definitely went up a notch in quality with this second book, and I can well imagine they each go from strength to strength.
Another excellent installment, I'm hooked!
