About this listen

On an Imperial outpost world on the fringes of tau space, the renowned Commissar Ciaphas Cain and his fractious regiment of Valhallan Guard, newly created from the remnants of two devastated units, find themselves in the middle of a war.

As the Astra Militarum struggle to contain worldwide civil insurrection, can the wily Commissar Cain identify the real villain before the planet is lost to the Imperium forever?

Possably one of the most enjoyable 40k books I've listened to in a while. The running "editorial" notes throught the story are brilliant and well done.

The story is brilliant and the narrators are such a perfect fit, Steve Pennings voice truly fits Cain and I could never imagine any other voice for him now

A thoroughly enjoyable plot, with a truly outstanding performance by Stephen Perring! I really recommend this to any and all listeners regardless of their level of knowledge of the WH40K universe. 10/10

My first Ciaphas Cain Audible book and was looking for much the same, I can sympathies with the grunts of the imperial Army, Also my first 40k book with the TAU as a race in it.

Think of Cain as a cross between Captain Flashheart and Blackadder rolled in to one character.

I laughed at many parts of the book, Braveheart reference made me spit my coffee over my laptop. editorial edits that pause the narrative but remind me of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Looking forward to my next credit for book two.

Think Flashheart with Blackadders cowardice
