Far too many anachronisms - though werewolves don't get sick they're bound to be injured at some point yet Callie has absolutely no idea what to do when one of the pack is seriously wounded. There are a number of other anomalies (such as why the alpha is away from the pack at a time when it's significantly at risk of attack or why Wyatt still has a condom in his jeans pocket some weeks after he and Callie have split up). Combined, these glaring holes or obvious mistakes lead to a less than satisfying plot.
Plot line itself is pretty much what I expected from a shifter romance. About the only idea which was thankfully missing was someone being kidnapped. Spice level is, imo, mild though there's lots of suggestive comment for about the first half of the novel. When the relationship between the MMCs finally does become physical, the descriptions aren't either very detailed or graphic. It's not what I'd describe as steamy and Alexa clearly agreed with my assessment as I could play it through my Echo rather than from the app on my tablet. Those who listen to a chunk of adult romance know that the hotter novels can usually be played only through the app.
Narration is nothing special either and similarly predictable. I have to explain that I often find Mr Thom's narration style mildly irritating. Though he has a deep and rich voice which should have been perfect for voicing characters, some of whom are from the south of the US, he reads with a degree of breath in his vocalisation which occasionally borders on the equivalent of a loud whisper. There's also an obvious intake of breath at the start of a chapter or paragraph and a slight degree of nasality which annoy me.
The female narrator reads Callie's voice in such a way that I was put in mind of a woman in her very early 20s, not the 30 year old she is meant to be. Perhaps she felt that this younger voice might help to highlight the emotional immaturity of Callie but I'm afraid I don't think that so much analysis went into how Callie was vocally represented.
The novel was free in the Plus catalogue when I listened to it and I'm glad I hadn't used a credit on it. It's been deleted from my devices and I won't be paying to hear the next book in the series. Rather disappointing!
