Summary

Serial killer Gary Heidnik's name will live on in infamy, and his home, 3520 North Marshall Street in Philadelphia, is a house tainted with the memory of unbelievable horrors. What police found there was an incredible nightmare made real. Four young women had been held captive - some for four months - half-naked and chained. They had been tortured, starved, and repeatedly raped. But more grotesque discoveries lay in the kitchen: human limbs frozen, a torso burned to cinders, an empty pot suspiciously scorched....

This is not a story for the faint-hearted. Cellar of Horror is a shocking true account of the self-proclaimed minister with a long history of mental illness, who preyed upon the susceptible in a bizarre plan to create his own "baby factory." It is a macabre web spun around money, power, and religion, tangled with courtroom drama and lawyers' tactics, sure to send a chill into your very soul.

Surprisingly impressive book

The Author does a great job of giving just enough detail to be informed but not so much it bores you. The story moves well and is very good from start to finish. Narration is good, not great but def not bad.

Meh

Lukewarm writing. Sorry! Will exchange for something else. Great voice performance. Sad story! Should be more about victims!

Captivating.. But.......

You have to get past the first 10 minutes- The problem is with the narrator who I was sure was auto-tuned or a robot- It took me a solid 10 minutes to get past it- Here's the deal: I had to wait 10 minutes because it was my only book I had to listen to on an 8 hour drive ! After that 10 minutes I could finally get into the story and the story is (I don't want to say good) the story in terms of true-crime is mesmerizing-

Cellar is dark, dank, and draggy

“Cellar” was very informative. However, it drug on and on, much like a funeral dirge. It put me to sleep more than once. If I hadn’t been so interested in what made Gary Heidnik tick, I wouldn’t have wasted my time listening to this very boring book.

Dated language, terrifying true crime

Recommended for true crime fans, this book recounts this absolutely awful case. Many trigger warnings as well as dated language in reference to people of color and individuals who are differently abled. If you can overlook those warnings, your jaw will drop at the numerous facts of this case.

****stars

Other than the narrator who sounds like an Amish gentleman with a head cold and his nose plugged, It was captivating. I think Kevin Pierce would have been a better narrator for this book. Cosidering how much research probably went into writing this book, It definitely could have been written a lot better. For you true crime fanatics, It was good true crime book.
