About this listen

The deliciously witty, irresistible new novel from the top 10 Sunday Times best-selling author of Not Quite Nice follows the exploits of two women on an Atlantic cruise ship.

The phone hasn't rung for months. Suzy Marshall is discovering that work can be sluggish for an actress over 60 - even for the former star of a 1980s TV series. So when she's offered the plum role of Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest in Zurich, it seems like a godsend. Until, that is, the play is abruptly cancelled in suspicious circumstances, and Suzy is forced to take a job on a cruise ship to get home.

Meanwhile, Amanda Herbert finds herself homeless in rainy Clapham. Her flat purchase has fallen through, and her children are absorbed in their own dramas. Then she spots an advertisement for an Atlantic cruise and realises a few weeks on board would tide her over - and save her money - until the crisis is solved.

As the two women set sail on a new adventure, neither can possibly predict the strange characters and dodgy dealings they will encounter - nor the unexpected rewards they will reap. Vividly evoking the old-world glamour of a cruise ship - and the complex politics of its staff quarters - Sail Away is at once a hilarious romp and a thrilling tale of intrigue, from the acclaimed pen of Celia Imrie.

I kind of guessed the ending early on, but that didn’t matter was totally engaged with this story, replaying bits I’d missed. Thoroughly enjoyable thank you

Celia’s voice is perfect, and has great characters - all goes together so well.

This is a departure from Celia's normal style. There is a sinister aspect to the whole storyline; with dodgy characters and some very strange twists.

It was gripping all the way through, wanting to know what happens next. The two main lead characters had their stories intertwined very well.

Celia's lovely voice read beautifully as always.

A really good listen

I enjoyed this book right up until the denouement. The hasty rounding up of all the reasons for the baddie doing his bad things was tenuous and cluttered. To that point it was enjoyable although when Suze is trying to get help from the crew I was screaming show them the note but, of course, she didn’t! Hey ho.

Good light read

I've always enjoyed watching Celia Imrie act, she's an amazing talent. And I've always enjoyed listening to her reading of books. So great to have her talents combined as both an author and actor.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable and fun listen. I enjoyed the characters and the story. It did make me wonder how many of the 'anecdotes' about actors etc came from real life.

I'll definitely look out for more by her.

Just great fun
