About this listen

On assignment in Vienna, photographer Ian Jarrett falls suddenly and desperately in love with a woman he meets by pure chance, Marian Esguard. Back in England, he separates from his wife and goes to meet Marian at an agreed rendezvous, only to hear her tell him on the telephone that she will not, after all, be coming. Then she vanishes from his life as mysteriously as she entered it.

Who and where is the woman he met and fell in love with in Vienna?

Kitchen fits like a glove, first class.
Deeply moving story telling as ever from this author.

Excellent

I’ve loved Robert Goddard, but this is the last one I’ll listen to for a while. It’s too depressing.

Poor story with unlikeable characters that you don’t care about which is unusual for this author. I have listened to a fair few of his books but I was disappointed with this. The narrator mostly does well but there were too many long pauses as if he had lost his way with the script, probably meant to be meaningful silences.

Poor for a Goddard

This was my 8th Robert Goddard book and all told my favourite I think. It was fast, gripping, gritty and as twisty as a suitcase full of snakes!!!

Brilliant!!

The performance is really good, but the story was so slow and some times barely made sense.
Towards the end it goes into deep depression and despair and loses all purpose of the story.
The only thing that kept me going were the sudden twists in the plot, but in the end they did not prove to be sufficient for a good story.
The addition of supernatural or mystic elements did not ad value to the story or the plot, it just made it less relevant.
The author does not possess the fine skill or intertwining imaginary and real as some other authors do, namely Haruki Murakami.

It is interesting but too slow and depressing
