This was a really interesting guide to easily understand and apply the best tips for canning. I really love the recipes (yum!) and found the historical/background information a great addition that motivated me even more to jump into this process. With this book, it's easy to learn and apply all does and don'ts. I have had all the supplies to begin canning for about 2 years now but I just have not had the confidence to move forward with starting it. I have read and listened to other canning books and while they say they are for beginners, I still got overwhelmed and therefore never moved forward with trying to can anything. The author writes in a very inviting tone and the narrator makes you feel just as welcomed to start learning various preservation techniques. The book ensures that the listener understands that safety is not just important when it comes to boiling the jars but also with ensuring the proper storage of the canned food and of course the seal. That was chapter 5, sealing the deal. Learning to listen for the pop when the jar cools signifies a secure seal. Also, learning to look for the presence of food on the rim or using old warped lids were things I needed to pay attention to.

So, since listening to this book, I have canned my first jar of pickles and I feel so proud that I actually followed through with it. This book has been a huge confidence boost for me. If you are scared of canning, this book will for sure help you move across the finish line to actually preserving something.
