About this listen

Alex Verus has a magic shop in Camden, London, and an uncanny ability to see the future. But suddenly everyone can see Alex's future. Because the Mage's Council of Great Britain just named him a traitor and ordered his death in seven days' time, and there's no way anyone can get out of that.

Alex's friends - Luna and the other apprentices he's taken in - are tainted by association. They'll be marked for death, too, when the ruling comes into play, and Alex becomes locked in a race against time to save them. But with only seven days to work with, will he have time left over save his own skin?

Critic reviews

"Harry Dresden would like Alex Verus tremendously - and be a little nervous around him. I just added Benedict Jacka to my must-read list." (Jim Butcher, author of the Dresden Files)

The twists and turns of this book, the amazing skill of Jacka to make you feel several emotions in a heartbeat. This ia what makes this a book you can not put down. The reading by Jackson was first class and built a truly electric atmosphere. I've already downloaded the next one and will start listening once this review is finished. Another brilliant book in an awesome series.

As great as all the others with outstanding narration and a nail-biting storyline. There does seem to be a growing similarly to the character development of Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files here but the comparison represents high praise indeed.
The tried and trusted 'Heroes Journey' is being closely followed as the series matures.
It's the narration by Gildert Jackson that really sells this series. I get goosebumps just by hearing his introduction to the book. It's like settling into a comfortable and much loved armchair.
Wonderful!

Fantastically Well Read

This is probably the best in the series! Unexpected turn of events, great character development, really intrigued what's going to happen next between Anne and Alex.
