As a parent of a child who was bullied

As a parent of a child who was bullied, as an educator, and as an anti-bullying author and speaker - I can say that this is hands down one of the best resources to foster kindness that I have ever explored.

A very inspirational

A very inspirational, touching book. I was amazed to read at how the author was able to overcome such adversity throughout his life--especially during his early years--and become the success he is today. The support of family and friends is paramount during our formative years for sure, but even in our adult years it is a comfort. I highly recommend this book.

Very inspirational and thought provoking

Very inspirational and thought provoking. It is my hope that every abuse victim will be able to read it. I did find one error. On page I believe you meant to use the word "principle" which is a noun meaning the ultimate meaning, source or cause of something rather than "principal" which is also a noun meaning head or chief such as a school

It's very practical

It's very practical. Some books are excellent at explaining why this happens, but then they fall down on the what-to-do-about-it part. This walks you through how to handle a situation.

As would be the concern of any caring parent

As would be the concern of any caring parent, having their child bullied in the security of their school can be very worrying prospect – especially if for whatever reason the school doesn’t seem to be taking your child’s bullying seriously. Fortunately in reading When Your Child Is Being Bullied,

a book for the bully and how to deal with him/her.

although it is a useful book. I was not very happy with it.
reading the title, I got a sense that this will be a book to help parents/teachers deal with a child as a victim of bullying. however, after a longish introduction about what exactly is bullying, the book focuses a lot on the "bully" and how to deal with him/her. It does not cover the other part of the picture (the victim) but very briefly.

so if your intent is to deal with the "bully" and what to focus on to improve his/her behaviour, then this book can be useful.

I love the section on bystanders

I love the section on bystanders. I've read in the past that research shows bystanders have a huge impact on bullying situations, and I love the empowerment that comes in that chapter. Even if you don't have kids, or don't work in schools--every person is a bystander, and understanding the power you have to make situations better around you is really important.

It's a very problem-solving

It addresses the problem instead of throwing blame around at teachers or parents. Yes, it talks about prevention. But it's a very problem-solving sort of approach as opposed to the books that imply "if only you were righteous enough, your children would be robotically perfect," or "if only the school district wasn't so slack-jawed, there would be no bully problems." The approach in this book is more of, okay, here's the issue

This book is an effective tool for parents

This book is an effective tool for parents dealing with bullying on all ends of the spectrum:the bully, the bullied, and the bystander. This book starts slow, but the meat of it effectively teaches techniques to prevent, cope with, discipline, communicate about, intervene during, and heal from bullying.
