Summary
I thought being kicked out would allow me to be free, but here I was, trapped once again.
On a dark night, Violet is roaming the streets - bloody, limping, and looking for a place to spend the night. Trapped by an abusive father for four years, being kicked out of that so-called home might have been the best thing to happen to her in years. Never mind the amount of pain she's in, never mind that she's terrified of what could be lurking the darkened alleys this bone-chilling night....
She's finally free. All she has to do is find a place to stay. Turns out she doesn't have to worry for long. Shadow, a vampire lusting for blood, is prowling the same street she's on. A hundred years after he was turned, he knows the drill like the back of his hand: Suck humans dry and leave the scene of the crime. But that night, Shadow does the unthinkable - he kidnaps Violet.
Taken away from everything she knows, Violet is thrown into the world of vampires, creatures she believed existed only in her books. Convinced that her captor's soul is as black as his name implies, she desperately tries to make her escape.
The longer she's there, the more danger she's in. However, another mysterious force starts targeting her, and Violet's already fragile mind starts to fray apart. Who could be behind this twisted plot? Will she get out of this deadly situation alive? And when she finds the stuff of her nightmares is the only one protecting her, will she defy every common sense and learn to trust once more?

YA recommended
I don't remember if it said what age group was recommended for this book but I think that it is veered towards that particular age group. The story is based for the young minds and the arguments that were had were child like and easily set off.
However, the story was OK and easy to follow. It brought in life like situations that were relatable, other than the vampire thing.

Good first book.
I like the story for this, but I would like to have a second book the ending leaves you feeling a bit dissatisfied. I did like the characters, although the main female character can be a bit whiney.

Deceptive or Trust Worthy?
Violet has finally escaped her physically abusive father, bloody limping, cold, and without anything to her name, until a vampire kidnaps her.
100 yr old vampire named Shadow with little to no people skills, normally wouldn't mind sucking a human dry, but this night he takes her back to his lair instead.
Violets life is in danger - why - is it from the vampires she now lives among, her father, or someone/something else? Either way trust doesn't come easy to Violet as she struggles to stay alive.
Narration by Anaia Rivers was terrific. Danielle gave personality and lilt to each of her characters.
