Since then, for life to exist beyond single-celled bacteria, it's the mitochondria that have been responsible for this life-giving energy.

Thrive or die: That's the rule of evolution. Despite this brutal logic, some species have learned to survive in even the most hostile conditions. Others couldn't - and perished. While incremental genetic adaptations hone the physiology of nearly every creature on this planet, there's another evolutionary force that is just as important: the power of choice. In this explosive investigation into the limits of endurance, journalist Scott Carney discovers how humans can wedge control over automatic physiological responses into the breaking point between stress and biology.

Story
For decades, the medical community has looked to a variety of reasons for why we age, and the consensus is that no-one dies of old age; they die of age-related diseases. That's because ageing is not a disease - it is inevitable. But what if everything you think you know about ageing is wrong? What if ageing is a disease? And that disease is curable. In Lifespan, Dr David Sinclair, one of the world’s foremost authorities on genetics and ageing, argues just that.

Fitness "guru" pretends to be an expert
I am a personal trainer, I hold a degree in exercise science and a masters in clinical exercise science. This book is nothing but a compendium of fitness flavoured bullshit, this guy seems to uncritically believe everything he's ever heard. My favourite quote from the parts I managed to listen to before I gave up under the strain of too much bullshit: "If you want to activate the right hand side of your brain you should spend x minutes breathing through your right nostril." For a start left-brain right-brain stuff has been thoroughly debunked, also any child pointing at an anatomical picture of the airways can see that it doesn't matter which nostril you breath through, the air is still going to your lungs. So couldn't possibly affect which side of the brain the oxygen gets to. This is just one example of the absolute swill this idiot is peddling. This book is £50+ on amazon in hardback, thank goodness I just used a single credit to get the audio book, because I would be FUCKING FURIOUS if I had spent that much!

Lots of waffle
Not meaning to dismiss the author’s work but there is a lot of filler within this audiobook . Chapter 15 negates anything that the author tries to put across by saying that all bodies get old , all athletes slow down etc ( we know that ) To me , after listening to that part of the chapter , it felt like what’s the point if we are going to wither and die regardless. Chapter 17 about symmetry, why go on about your computer? It just came across like a promotional advert for the manufacturer. All in all this book has good points but it also has parts that , to me , are un necessary.

Great content,poor narration!
Ben why have you not narrated your masterpiece? I know it takes time to narrate but would have made the book perfect and easily led to a Five Star review. Very surprising as you are such a good narrator who has an ability to bring content to life! Please narrate this book as the current narrator has mispronounced many words and frequently displays a lack of understanding of the content.

Great material, poor narration
The material is very good and well laid out. On the other hand, the narration is horrible. Mono-tonous /hypnotic voice and many mistakes in pronunciation of medical terms. For a book like this the narrator should have been provided a list of terms that needed to be pronounced correctly. I can accept a few mispronunciations but they are all the way through the book; has become a distraction from the material. Agree with others that it would be better if Ben Greenfield read it. I will likely return it and purchase the hard copy as a reference book.

The narrator is the worst!
The book itself, so far(I'm 6 hours in), is very informative. I don't think I would have gotten through it in paper form, as it is very technical. The narration, however, is horrible, and making it increasinglydifficult to get through. I have to give credit to the narrator; this is a 40 hour book. But I have never listened to an audio book that was so poorly edited. The audio book is riddled with gaps, repeating, even throat clearing, gasping for breath, and gibberish noises by the narrator. In addition, trying to follow along is difficult, because the narrator mispronounces soooo many words. It is extremely frustrating.

great book. sketchy pronunciations at best
A great book well organized perfect amount of detail and other resources. The only problem with listening to the book was the sketchy pronunciations and blatently incorrect pronunciations. For example "baggles" instead of bagels. Someone should have "proof read" the recording for these obvious and innumerable flaws of pronunciation. Aside from that the narrator did a fine job. l feel publisher owes me at least a kindle copy of the book so I can verify what the author intended. Again I loved the book and have listened to it more than once. But, still wonder how so many prounciations ended up in a published work.

Distracted by terrible mispronounciation
Should have looked for a Reader who has some medical background or training. So far, the info is good but when so much of it isn’t articulated correctly, it’s super distracting. Can’t even say ‘glial’ cells or ‘epinephrine’ correctly. Which also leads to the information sounding less credible. The words should be enunciated correctly else the material fall flat. Sorry to the reader. You have a beautiful voice. Should have probably listened to how to pronounce all these medical/biology/physiology terms in advance. Makes for a poor listening experience.

Couldn't Listen!!!
I couldn't listen to this. I lasted 5 seconds before I was offended that Ben thought I bought HIS book because I was pathetic. I thought it had valuable info beyond what I know or what is in the podcast. It might. I will never know. As a long-time Ben Greenfield fan....I couldn't tolerate the intro. Here is why: 1. I can't relate to the sad and pathetic people YOU SAY you wrote this book for. 2. Ben isn't the narrator. 3. This book is for noobs. I thought it would be insightful. Ben's podcast is the SHIT....COMPLETELY different person in the podcast. Go there,

Narrator is horrible
I love the content of this book and I love Ben Greenfield’s work, but I can’t tell you how terrible this narrator is. He miss pronounces so many important medical words, and supplement words it’s irritating to listen to. Audible should have had been read his own book If he was willing to do it. Or at least have someone who knew the words so they didn’t mess them up so bad. I’m sorry narrator, you should’ve done your medical research and learned how to say those words!

biohacker's bible
single most impactful health book and I've read quite a few. Really dwarves Genius Life which is good info but is very basic level and is missing a lot to be honest. have only implemented a fraction (earthing, oil pulling, gravity boots, trampoline, dozens more..) of what's contained yet have experienced a personal evolution catapult or portal even. pronunciations absolutely fine could not imagine not listening to this comprehensive monstrosity. if you've read many others like me this will likely reintroduce many key concepts and familiar names but will also introduce many interesting new ideas, habits, practices to explore
