About this listen

Blue Ridge library director Amy Webber learns it wasn’t all peace and love among the “flower children” when a corpse is unearthed on the grounds of a 1960s commune.

Taylorsford Public Library director Amy Webber’s friend “Sunny” Fields is running for mayor. But nothing puts a damper on a campaign like an actual skeleton in a candidate’s closet. Sunny’s grandparents ran a commune back in the 1960s on their organic farm. But these former hippies face criminal charges when human remains are found in their fields - and a forensic examination reveals that the death was neither natural nor accidental.

With Sunny’s mayoral hopes fading, Amy sets her wedding plans aside, says “not yet” to the dress, and uses her research skills to clear her best friend’s family. Any of the now-elderly commune members could have been the culprit. As former hippies perish one by one, Amy and her friends Richard, Aunt Lydia, and Hugh Chen pursue every lead. But if Amy can’t find whoever killed these “flower children”, someone may soon be placing flowers on her grave.

I enjoyed this cosy mystery despite not having read any of the previous books. I wasn't up to date with all the character backgrounds/connections and at first it was a bit confusing with so many characters I didn't know but as the story developed I was soon able to keep them straight and follow along. I Liked the characters and yes I know the playful kitten didn't have anything to do with the investigation but everybody needs a mischievous kitten fix. I liked the library setting for the story and having spent a lot of time in them when growing up it made it easy to picture. The mystery was good and I was wrong with who I thought was behind it, although they did make a good suspect for a time and I did have the right motive for that person. I will probably get the next book When the audio book comes out.

When you are running for mayor the last thing you want is for a skeleton to be discover on your grandparents property or for the police to start digging into there past. So when that happens to Sunny, she turns to best friend Amy to help. The grandparents use to run a hippie commune on there property and they want Amy to use her library skills to track down former members and warn them that they will be getting a visit from the police, a visit that they might not be so receptive too. Especially as one of there own went missing before the group disbanded. With an idea of who the skeleton was, can Amy find the motive for his death. Just hours after visiting a former member her body is discovered and it seems like Amy and the police might not be the only ones looking into the past.

The narrator was the reason I tried this book. As I have heard a number of books read by her and know that they are always worth a listen, she didn't disappoint.
