Fascinating autobiography, but very sad and a lot i didn’t know about. The love story was touching and moving but the dysfunctional family Ryan talked about at times made me cringe.

I listened to this book after reading Tatum's story & I found this to be unable to put down. Ryan wasn't the best father but all the blame doesn't lie completely at his door. He admits his mistakes & has suffered in his life but he had a lot of bitterness too which never came across well to the public. Tatum has a rep for being difficult to deal with & her brothers went off the rails too. You can blame the parents to a point but the O'Neal kids were still wreaking havoc in their 40s. At some point you have to stop using Ryan as an excuse. As Adults in mid life with their own children & marriages, it is their responsibility & choices. Ryan was no angel but he was devoted to Farrah. Farrah was an incredible woman who dealt with a lot but stayed with Ryan. I believe despite it being toxic at times, that they truly loved each other. I thought this was an amazing book & I can see faults on all sides, nobody except Farrah & Patrick, are innocent. Ryan, Tatum, Red & Griff all hurt each other & it became a mess played out & edited in the media. Tatum never again achieved the success she had at such a young age & could only get attention by talking about drama with their father. They supposedly hated their father but continued to take money from him??? Like I said, all of them were at fault. I highly recommend reading this & Tatum's books + any other books written by her brothers, get all sides of the story.
