About this listen

“That Marvin is alive to tell his heart-wrenching story is a miracle,” – Shaun Attwood, true crime author/YouTuber

Harrowing, heart-breaking and often horrific were the challenges that confronted Marvin after his birth in prison. Born in distress, Marvin was wrenched from his drug-addicted parents and deposited into an orphanage. Mistreatment led to him wetting the bed, for which his tyrannical adoptive father would rub Marvin’s face in the urine-soaked sheets.

Only 11-years-old, he was taken by an older boy to a predator’s house and abused.

By his late teens, drugs and crime were a way of life. While in the throes of crack addiction, he was shot, stabbed, beaten with weapons including a spiked ball on a chain, and kidnapped by gangsters and mauled by their dangerous dogs, which left terrible scars all over his body.

In this inspirational memoir, Marvin searches for his birth parents and battles his crack addiction with the help of the woman he loves, determined to start a family and to live his life crime and drug free.

From the first chapter to the last this audibook invites a roller coaster of emotions, an incredible account of a life filled with trauma and addiction from day one, and above all a will to survive with a resilience unlike any other. The man he is today is nothing short of a miracle. Very moving.

Excellent book. The Twists and turns of the daily grind of an addict. Marvin’s story is one of the best battles I’ve read about and it doesn’t disappoint

Brilliant honest, devastating, sometimes funny inspiring read! This man has lived 10 lives! As someone who has worked in the Criminal Justice System for 20 years, this book could really help those experiencing addiction and gives so much hope, I will definitely be promoting this to people I work with who have experienced trauma and addiction or those who work in the field. The only minor criticism I have, it would be good to be recorded one day by someone with a Manchester accent to give it even more authenticity… although the words do that by themselves. So authentic, so real. Cried at the end, I’m rooting for Marv!!
