Summary
In the 1970s, Mark Johnson was a gangly North Carolina farm boy with a big imagination. An avid reader of Doc Savage pulp novels and Hardy Boys mysteries, Johnson knew he wanted adventure in his life. He just had no idea where to get it or how to escape the Christmas tree fields of the Appalachians. As a teenager, Johnson discovered music. Then, girls. These epiphanies would lead to an adventure even Johnson’s wild imagination couldn’t have predicted.
Follow along as Johnson navigates a heart-pounding and often hilarious odyssey through the 1980s and ‘90s music industry as a songwriter and club musician, both in fickle Nashville and the mysterious Caribbean island of ill repute St. Croix. Johnson reveals both the seductions and the hard truths of life in the world of entertainment.

Awesome Story
After having listened to Mark's adventures in "Doofus Dad Does Everest Base Camp" it was only natural that I should listen to his recounting of the time battling with the adversities within the music industry. Led by Mark's narration in his friendly 'Appalachian drawl' the book follows his story from the mountains of North Carolina to Nashville from there to St Croix in the US Virgin Islands and back, as a struggling young singer-songwriter trying to break into the Nashville music scene in the 1990s.
The book is full of true tales, with heartache and joy along the way. It is a must for anyone who likes to read/listen to real life adventures.
Well done Mark, you should be well chuffed with this book!

What a fun ride!
Mark has the talent of taking you right there in his life story that he wonderfully tells with great humor.
I’m generally not a fan of audiobooks and always prefer to read the hardcopy, but I listened to this while hiking in the mountains and it was such a fun companion. Umpteen times I bursted into laughter and hit pause to further tell the story to my partner.
It is a great journey to self-discovery that Mark skillfully makes us part of, from his adolescence in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, to a struggling young musician life in Nashville, St. Croix Caribbean Island and South Padre Island of Texas with great humor and sincerity.
Also, for those of you that love the music of ’60s & ‘70s, this is a blast and so much more than 'that guy that plays Buffet and Taylor"!
