The first book in Karin Slaughter's #1 bestselling GRANT COUNTY series.

She was found in the local diner. Brutally murdered. Ritually mutilated.
And she won't be the last.
_________________________________________

The sleepy town of Heartsdale, Georgia, is jolted into panic when Sara Linton, paediatrician and medical examiner, finds a woman dead in the local diner.

She has been cut: two deep knife wounds form a lethal cross over her stomach. But it's only once Sara starts to perform the post-mortem that the full extent of the killer's brutality becomes clear.

Police chief Jeffrey Tolliver - Sara's ex-husband - is in charge of the investigation, and when a second victim is found, crucified, only a few days later, both Jeffrey and Sara have to face the fact that themurder wasn't a one-off attack. What they're dealing with is a seasoned sexual predator. A violent serial killer...

So many amazing writing techniques…the characters- their behaviour and feelings are written so well and carefully considered.
The explicit and gruesome descriptions are enough to disturb slightly but make you want to listen on.
An excellent and gripping crime thriller!

Explicit, gruesome and captivating!

I did listen to the whole of this and on the whole quite enjoyed it but I wouldn't rate it as highly as other books I have listened to.

As a voracious reader of crime fiction I often find it difficult to remember books after I have finished them, I generally rush to the 'twist' conclusion and move on to the next overhyped bestseller. Karin Slaughter however has been a real find, the primary reason for this being that she has a real knack for writing characters that feel both familiar and mysterious.

I first discovered her after downloading 'The Good Daughter' from the bestseller list (would hugely recommend!). Having listened to the series out of order I found that this book answered a lot of questions I had about the characters, particularly Sara. It is not essential to listen to them in order as they work well as standalone novels although if like me you find yourself wanting to know more about the characters it pays to listen from the start in order to fully understand their motivations.

Although the whodunnit was a tad predictable I immensely enjoyed listening to the story unfold. The narrators southern twang takes a little time to get used to (I'm Scottish) but it fits the setting well and adds to the escapism element of the audiobook. Lost a star for the predictable ending, but still definitely worth a listen!

Definitely worth a listen...
