Summary

“[Caroline Linden] touches every emotion.” (Julia Quinn)

What happens in Bath stays in Bath - or not.

Blame It on Bath is the second installment in Caroline Linden’s breathtaking new historical romance series, The Truth About the Duke, in which the three sons of the Duke of Durham, at risk of losing their inheritance, seek their fortunes...and, hopefully, love. Writing in a voice that will remind listeners of Julia Quinn and Liz Carlyle, RITA Award-nominee Linden spins a wonderfully sensual yarn about a blackmailed nobleman facing the loss of his birthright and bent on revenge, and the willing heiress he intends to marry for her money - a lady who has loved him from afar for years.

Distracting narrator

As far as the story and characters are concerned, it's a decent enough book if you don't expect historical accuracy in the language or in the way the characters behave. My problem was with the narrator. He had a lovely tone and even though his female voices were a bit ridiculous, I could have overlooked that. But he reads with such a weird cadence, it's almost robotic. I almost gave up a few times to be honest, all those unnecessary pauses were incredibly frustrating and in my view, took away from the flow of the story. I think it got a bit better in the second half and increasing the narration speed to x1.25 helped as well.

I will avoid this narrator in the future I think, and as the rest of the books in this series are read by the same person I will probably skip them too.

A hero to die for!

I loved the story but the hero is the man of my dreams. The narrator is superb.

Good romantic story nicely narrated.

This is new to me author and the book was well worth the credit. It is often narration that could completely ransack the content, not in this case however. I look for entertainment value in my books and this one did not disappoint. There were some loose ends within the plot and I guess one must read the whole trilogy to tie them together.
