What would you do if you woke up in a strange land? What if you had no idea why? Would you fight, or would you curl up into a ball and cry? What if your fate was sealed by a booming announcement that cracked across the vast blue skies? “Greetings, welcome to The Land of The Lessermen. You have arrived in the nick of time. War looms, its dire thunderheads crowding our once glorious sky. This land needs a strong hand such as yours. A hundred must battle for victory, and at the end, there can be only one.”

I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

Sloppy writing, strange narration

Summary
Charlie Naylor used to work in an office where he pushed paper, filled in spreadsheets, and made coffee. Now, he casts, conjures, stabs, and tames.
When the demigods take over the home of the gods, Charlie finds himself hunted, and he and his friends - a half-gnome, a giant rat, the god of corn, and an old mage - must find somewhere safe.
But can he survive when he crash-lands on a planet and finds himself pitted against a paranoid god and his army of dragons, a world of deadly creatures, and interplanetary pirates?

Disapointing
This is not a continuation of the first book. It a reset and redo. Even the title is misleading, as there is little “blademage” or “dragon taming” in the book. The author had a good slow start in the first book, and blew it in this one.

I don't know where to begin...
I really dislike leaving bad reviews. Authors work so hard to craft tales to entertain their readers and narrators work so diligently to bring the characters and world to life for listeners, it just sucks to be negative about all of that hard work. So, Deck, I promised I'd leave an honest review, but please know that I respect the hell out of you for writing and being published. I've never managed it, so take what follows with the understanding that it's said with no malice.
This book just didn't do it for me. The characters never felt authentic, the story was a bit of a mess (how many crashes must one character endure, honestly?), and I STRUGGLED to finish this book. It's billed as GameLit, but there is so little in it, that I'm just not sure it qualifies. J. Scott Bennett did his best to get us through the story. His performance had lots of variety in the characters and plenty of depth, but it felt like he wasn't having much fun either. I've definitely enjoyed his performances in the past, but this one felt really forced.
I cannot say that I recommend this one, sorry guys :(

Belief is Where True Magic Come From
Charlie is a guy ripped from Earth by gods and thrust into their civil war. He's doing the best he can to learn magic and survive.
The magic system is kind of all over the place, but Deck Davis gives us a good reason why. There are some Lit RPG to the story but they don't really play a prominent role. I think this series could easily be a fantasy rpg with little to no tweaking.
J. Scott Bennett does a great job of delivering the story like a grandfather telling stories on a front porch and does a good job of keeping the listener engaged.
Long Tooth was my favorite character because he seemed the most real. He would always try to remain upbeat and when there was fighting to be done he hesitated because he wasn't sure fighting was for him. I thought he was pretty great.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Plot holes galore
Very poorly written book. Character is boring and unrelatable and story moves at a chaotic unsubstantiated pace. Very rarely will I ready a book and be genuinely angry at the writing and the author during the reading process.
You cannot just go hardcore litrpg book 1 then totally abandon litrpg and go 100% scifi, then go to 100% fantasy while completely abandoning litrpg mindset. Worse the character is just so freaking weak. He's just weak weak weak. Weak minded, and weak in abilities and doesn't ever really have any direction to change it. Plus there's other things that infuriate me. He just does things that are so dumb, either the writer himself is of a low IQ or he intentionally wrote the main character as a easily manipulated, low minded, weak beta male.

Story could have been better
I enjoyed that the author expanded on how the magic system worked, but I wish it had been done better. Maybe have the MC try out more possible solutions to his problems.
The story also felt somewhat rushed at parts, and certainly lacked much dragon taming.

Boring, Unfun, Lame
Nothing really happens. The whole book is just pondering about. They have to escape but just complain for 3 hours of reading time, then they accidentally go to a world of dragons, where nothing happens, the MC loses his magic sorta and realizes that he is useless (which he had been for the entire book) and also he can't level anymore... so boring, until about the last few hours of the book where his only ability is taming but he can only tame animals if he is pathetic little you know what. The world they go to has a crazy god of dragons, So he "feels" for the god's personal dragon to tame it and get the gods power. That sounds really cool but it was so pathetic it wasn't and it happened in the last chapters anyways so..... I wont be listening to this series and it needs to not be labeled as "LitRPG" Since this book didn't have any LitRPG in it.

I have really taken to LitRPG. While this book has not risen to the level of Aleron Kong, (very few have!), it is still worthwhile to listen to. I do recommend this audiobook. Now for the obligatory: "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."
