Story
When a pseudonymous programmer introduced “a new electronic cash system that’s fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party” to a small Online mailing list in 2008, very few paid attention. Ten years later, and against all odds, this upstart autonomous decentralized software offers an unstoppable and globally-accessible hard money alternative to modern central banks. The Bitcoin Standard analyzes the historical context to the rise of Bitcoin, the economic properties that have allowed it to grow quickly, and its likely economic, political, and social implications.

We live in an extraordinary time. Technological advances are happening at a rate faster than our ability to understand them, and in a world that moves faster than we can imagine, we cannot afford to stand still. These advances bring efficiency and abundance - and they are profoundly deflationary. Our economic systems were built for a pre-technology era when labor and capital were inextricably linked - an era that counted on growth and inflation and an era where we made money from inefficiency.

This time, Ammous delves into the world's earlier shift from the gold standard to today's system of government-backed fiat money—outlining the fiat standard's purposes and failures; deriving the wider economic, political, and social implications of its use; and examining how bitcoin will affect it over time.

Using gold as an example of this term, he traces the layers of this ancient currency from raw mined material, to gold coins, and finally to bank-issued gold certificates. In a groundbreaking manner, Bhatia offers a similar paradigm for the evolution of digital currencies.

Story
This book covers bitcoin’s blocksize war, which was waged from August 2015 to November 2017. On the surface, the battle was about the amount of data allowed in each bitcoin block, however it exposed much deeper issues, such as who controls bitcoin’s protocol rules. It is not possible to cover every twist and turn in the labyrinthine conflict or all the arguments, but I have provided a chronology of the most significant events. This book explores some of the major characters in the conflict and includes coverage, from both the front lines and behind the scenes.

When Money Dies is the classic history of what happens when a nations currency depreciates beyond recovery. In 1923, with its currency effectively worthless (the exchange rate in December of that year was one dollar to 4,200,000,000,000 marks), the German republic was all but reduced to a barter economy. Expensive cigars, artworks, and jewels were routinely exchanged for staples such as bread; a cinema ticket could be bought for a lump of coal; and a bottle of paraffin for a silk shirt....

Summary
Bitcoin is hard money you can’t f--k with.
No one controls it. No governments, no companies, no central banks, no money printing. It’s a revolution as big as the internet. And it’s never been hacked.
Entrepreneur and investor Jason A. Williams is the first author to put bitcoin in context of the 2020 crisis - a year of financial disaster and unprecedented money creation (money printer go brrr!).
Not only was bitcoin the best-performing asset on the planet in 2020, it quietly established itself as the next global reserve currency as central banks around the world desperately printed their money into oblivion.
Hard Money You Can’t F*ck With explains bitcoin in simple, understandable terms and maps out how this "magic internet money" will grow into the best form of money we’ve ever had.
What’s inside?
Part 1: "Why Bitcoin Matters Now"
- What bitcoin is
- Who created it
- Why bitcoin is "money you can’t f--k with"
- How bitcoin emerged out of the 2008 banking crisis
- Why money printing slowly destroys your wealth
Part 2: "A Brief History of Money (and Money Printing)"
- Take a step back and learn "what exactly is money"
- Why "printing cash" has always led to the death of currency
- Why bitcoin is the best form of money ever created
Part 3: "How Bitcoin Becomes the Next Global Reserve Currency"
- A deep dive into the 2020 financial crisis and how bitcoin emerged strongest
- The emergence of national digital currencies to compete.
- Why some nation states are now holding and trading in bitcoin

Easy language a f*ckwit like me can understand.
I'm really impressed by the way such a complex subject is conveyed in such simple terms that a total f*ckiwit such as myself can understand it. I do have a background in computing, but I've never taken any interest in cryptocurrencies. I remember sitting at my desk in London around 2012 wondering whether or not to buy a bitcoin for the fun of it, but of course, I steered clear of it.
Roll forward a few years and I'm living in Japan, I'm worried about the value of my money in the bank ... and then last weekend I saw the price of bitcoin take a dive. Thought to myself, okay, maybe now is the time to start investing. So I signed up for an online course in cryptocurrencies and thought I'd buy this book to supplement what I already knew, perhaps learn something I didn't. Well, lets just say I learned more from this book than any amount of researching I'd already done. I'd read Yuval Noah Harari's books before, so understanding the concept of money as a legal fiction might have given me a bit of a head-start in some areas of this book; but my god it's clarified a whole load of stuff I hadn't got figured out before.
I may not have grown into a cast iron HODLer yet, but I've definitely started a recurring payment plan into bitcoin ... and I'm looking into investing some of my cash into gold and silver. My fears of inflation seem to have been right, so I'm hedging against the fiat currencies. As most people in finance say, "don't invest what you can't afford to lose" ... I think that's a sound strategy, but then again, what will I lose if I don't might be a better question.

Good story, but very bitcoin centric, is it really reasonable to think that there will only be one crypto currency in the future? Still, it's well worth a listen. Not a huge fan of the narration as she sounds like Layah Heilpern and she annoys me.

More like a rant
How is Bitcoin hard money you can’t f with? Halfway through and I think I give up. A lot of ranting. A lot of going over who has wronged the author. A lot of rehashing Bitcoin history. The author is heavily invested in Bitcoin and would like you to be as well. You will never have as much as him but you can help drive the value up for him. If the Byrnes and Musks and other big crypto supporters recanted, could Bitcoin hold its value? I don’t know. This book seems too much like a self interested sales pitch.

This book is amazing and chock full of information intentionally left out of public education. We’re drowning out in dollars and we don’t even notice on a mass scale. Bitcoin is the escape valve. Jason Williams does an amazing job communicating both the concepts of bitcoin as well as the urgency of the situation we find ourselves in the current global financial system.

Very good BTC book, distills it down
I’ve read all the crypto classics and this one is simple and to the point and near the top. It’s more focused than The Sovereign Individual and The Price of Tomorrow. It’s more like Digital Gold or The Bitcoin Standard or Layered Money. All of these books have their place in a great crypto library.
I’m no Bitcoin maxi, but I still think 95% of crypto is crap. BTC is digital gold, ETH is the future internet (with SOL as the only true competitor), and LUNA will power all of DeFi with its stablecoin UST.
