About this listen

At birth, Mick Trewlove, the illegitimate son of a duke, was handed over to a commoner. Despite his lowly upbringing, Mick has become a successful businessman, but all his wealth hasn’t satisfied his need for revenge against the man who still won’t acknowledge him. What else can Mick do but destroy the duke’s legitimate son—and woo the heir’s betrothed into his own unloving arms . . .

Orphaned and sheltered, Lady Aslyn Hastings longs for a bit of adventure. With her intended often preoccupied, Aslyn finds herself drawn to a darkly handsome entrepreneur who seems to understand her so well. Surely a lady of her station should avoid Mick Trewlove. If only he weren’t so irresistible . . .

As secrets are about to be exposed, Mick must decide if his plan for vengeance is worth risking what his heart truly desires.

I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, the strong and unexpected character of the heroine and as always, Kate Reading was an excellent narrator.
Thank you for a great audiobook.

Terrific story

This is a lovely story. It had all that one likes in a romance. Twists, excitement, subtle passion and morality. I very much enjoyed it and will be purchasing the rest of the series. As for Kate Reading? ... This is the first time I've listened to a ready by her and I've got to say she is now by far my favourite narrator. I have purchased over a 100 audio books and could not pay her a better compliment. well done Lorraine not only for the superb book but for your choice in narrator so many authors get it wrong. Thank you and on to the next

it was just brilliant. fabulous narrator. I laughed, I felt sadness, I smiled, I had to stop whatever I was doing to just stop and listen and be lost in the story. beautifully finished.

A true romance

My first Lorraine Heath story and it did not disappoint! Contained all of the angsty twisty turny story toward a great conclusion. Great romance, great steam. Great characters. Kate Reading did a great job narrating (except for mispronouncing “flaccid” and “feral”— but, I have rarely encountered a narrator who didn’t mispronounce at least one word, and, really, only a pedant would hold that against them….) I will definitely add Lorraine Heath to my favourite historical romance authors.

Loved it

The story is good but too many problems of the time have been force into the making. Thus leaving many odd pieces to be knitted together, it didn't work.
The only bastards ever accepted by the TON, were royal and even then not all of them.
If you were heir to any title, you couldn't say "I don't want it".
Since trains were being used by the common folk, then this period was when the "money men" were rising and top society declining.
If you are not going to take the title, why are you being given all the unintailed land.
Leaving the so called heir with not enough income to support his title.
Too many holes.

A good story with too many holes.
