Summary

Estranged from his family for most of his adult life, Chris Napier is persuaded to return home for his niece's wedding. At the reception, he is shocked to recognise a dishevelled intruder as his childhood friend Nicky Lanyon, whose presence is a chilling reminder of a murder and subsequent trial that Chris has tried hard to forget.

When Nicky hangs himself, Chris is compelled to revisit the tragic events of 34 years ago and the apparent justice that was served. But as present-day mysteries begin to shadow his footsteps into the past, his search for the truth soon becomes a desperate struggle for his own survival.

Another good one

Robert Goddard is such a great story writer!!!! They’re all different and you have to keep listening to hear more about his characters till the last word. He chooses really good narrators too with John Telfer Paul Shelley and Michael Kitchen Terrific.

Actually pretty good!

I enjoyed the plot with its twists and turns and I really liked the characters. John Telfer, as always, is superb!

More twists than a corkscrew

Fist things first. Brilliant narration. After an initial uncertainty, and mainly because of the narrator, I kept going and became completely absorbed into the story. It turned out to be a really good listen with some lovely bad characters. Would recommend.

Not his best

I have read and listened to many Robert Goddard books. This is my least favourite, not sure why but I never felt that involved with the plot. I feel he needs to change his protagonist, Chris Napier is Harry Barnett in all but name.
