He has a goal and a plan. If he carries through with the plan, his sister will die first. His ex will die next, and he will die last. In between, he’ll take out as many people as he can. Students. Security guards. Teachers. First responders. They are all fair game.

Beyond Broken Pencils

The only bad thing about this book is that it was too short!it seemed to end quite abruptly too,I feel it could of carried on for a few more chapters. I really enjoyed it though, the narrator was good, but his female voices could do with some work!x

A Heart-Breaking Story

Beyond Broken Pencils is a fictional story that talks about one of the most heart-breaking realities of our time - school shootings in America. Julie Gilbert related a tale that was based on events that have been making the whole world sad and everyone wondering why such madness happen. I, personally, was moved by this book because I have children who goes to school and I worry for their safety everyday. We are not in America and I hope that no such thing will ever happen to our schools here.

I like the book because it gave each characters their own highlights, particularly the main one. I cried a few times, and have asked myself if I am doing everything I can to support and love my kids. This book will do that to you, make you analyze how you are dealing with the children and teens in your life. They are the most vulnerable individuals in our society and it is about time to focus, not just on what, but also on HOW they are doing.

I had a bit of an issue with the narration, but the story really made up for that.

Blames violent video games

The author seemed to blame violent video games as one of the motivations for his school shooting. This perpetuates a lie that politicians and the uninformed believe, when no correlation exists between violent video games and acts of violence.

Wow

I picked this book because I thought would be interesting. and different. And I wasn't wrong. This book was crazy! I grew up in NJ around the time of Columbine. I think I was in like 7th grade when that happened. It was the school shooting that started all school shootings. I remember how much fear happened because of it. This book brought back a lot of memories from that time. But I did really enjoy reading/listening to this. It was very well written and it did what a good book is supposed to do. It brought a bunch of memories and feeling to the surface. The narrator was awesome also. I definitely recommend it

Hits to your heart & soul

The narrator was very easy to listen to. I found the book to be one that hits to the very heart & soul for all those involved with such horrific actions. It’s a huge reminder of how fleeting life can be, and that the thoughts of another can truly go from just thoughts to action without anyone noticing before it’s to late.

This one blew me away.

This book was awesome. I really enjoyed the book. The book was the story of a school shooting. It was told several points of view. The only disappointment was that at the end, it seemed to stray away from the shooter and seemed to focus on one of the survivors. But overall I enjoyed the book. I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for a review.

Realistic Depiction

A realistic case of school shooting and what occurs. How they are planned, how they occur, and they play out in the aftermath. Recommended for those who want to understand school shootings but need a more fictionalized depiction for understanding.

Very thought provoking

Being a high school teacher previously I found this book to be both thought provoking and scary. I understand all too much what these kids go through daily at home and at school. This book made me feel as if I was living this journey along with the characters. I highly recommend every parent and teacher read it to understand the emotional journey some kids go through. Thank you!

Didn’t live up to other reviews.

As a teacher I admit that the worry and fear of what if doesn’t cross my mind basically every day. I wanted to hear this book to hear how the healing took place and hoped to think and ponder what was on the mind of the troubled boy. While it did have a fast moving plot and kept my attention it left me feeling like I wasted the time. If you just want a fast paced thrill story maybe you would like this. I personally don’t want to have that reaction to a story about this kind of tragedy.
