Story
Soldiers of Christ must, like soldiers of our nation, wear their uniforms; and if they are ashamed of their uniforms, they ought to be drummed out of the army. I believe that many Christians get into a lot of trouble by not being honest in their convictions. For instance, if a person goes into a workshop, or a soldier into a barracks, and if he does not fly his flag from the beginning, it will be very difficult for him to run it up afterward.

Every excuse, reason, and roadblock for not coming to Christ is examined and duly dealt with. If you think you may be too bad, or if perhaps you really are bad and you sin either openly or behind closed doors, you will discover that life in Christ is for you too. You can reject the message of salvation by faith, or you can choose to live a life of sin after professing faith in Christ, but you cannot change the truth as it is, either for yourself or for others.

Story
Arthur Pink introduces us to this weighty subject by asking the question, “Is man a totally and thoroughly depraved creature by nature?” Thomas Reade then tells us about the deadly consequences and bitter fruits of Adam’s fall: In Adam, all die. We then consider Joel Beeke’s helpful survey of the doctrine of human depravity. A second article by Thomas Reade leads us to a painful truth: The heart of man is evil. But he does not leave us there: He takes us to the blessed Son of God for deliverance.

This short but helpful book is a must for all Christians who want to walk in a manner worthy of Jesus Christ, pleasing him in all things. Pink aptly uses Proverbs 4:23 to show that keeping or guarding the heart is key to walking in that worthy manner. For from the heart are all “the issues of life.” As goes the heart, so goes the life. Whether you are a young or old Christian, or whether you live in prosperity or in adversity, this is a superb guide to practical Christian thinking and living.

The discussions in this little audiobook are not supposed to be arguments. It was not my aim to convince an opponent but to assist a friend. How I have personally threaded the labyrinth of life thus far may be of helpful interest to some other soul who is in a maze. I hope that this book will assist some true heart to say “he fought his doubts and gather’d strength”. Let no man’s heart fail him, for, the prevalent skepticism of today are but “specters of the mind”. Face them, and they fly.

Story
This audiobook examines three things that are of utmost importance in this fight of faith. The first is our armory, which is the inspired Word of God. The second is our army, the church of the living God, which we must lead under our Lord’s command. The third is our strength, by which we wear the armor and use the sword. The message in this audiobook, when originally presented by Charles Spurgeon in his final address to his own Pastor's College, was received rapturously and enthusiastically.

You cannot have Christ if you will not serve Him. If you take Christ, you must take Him in all His qualities. You must not simply take Him as a Friend, but you must also take Him as your Master. If you are to become His disciple, you must also become His servant. God-forbid that anyone fights against that truth. It is certainly one of our greatest delights on earth to serve our Lord, and this is to be our joyful vocation even in heaven itself: His servants shall serve Him: and they shall see His face (Revelation 22:3-4).

Men who were led by the hand or groped their way along the wall to reach Jesus were touched by his finger and went home without a guide, rejoicing that Jesus Christ had opened their eyes. Jesus is still able to perform such miracles. And, with the power of the Holy Spirit, his word will be expounded, and we’ll watch for the signs to follow, expecting to see them at once. Why shouldn’t those who read this be blessed with the light of heaven? This is my heart's inmost desire.

Story
For 300 years, The Pilgrim's Progress has remained perhaps the best-loved and most read of devotional fictions. In plain yet powerful and moving language, Bunyan tells the story of Christian's struggle to attain salvation and the Gates of Heaven. He must pass through the Slough of Despond, ward off the temptations of Vanity Fair, and fight the monstrous Apollyon. In Part II, his wife and children follow the same path, helped and protected by Great-heart, until for them, too, "the trumpets sound on the other side."

The whole Bible teaches truth and awakens emotions, but the Psalms are in a category of their own. They do not just awaken the heart; they put it in the foreground. They do not merely invite our emotions to respond to God's truth; they put our emotions on display. The Psalms are more than commanding-they are contagious. We are not just listening to profound ideas and feelings. We are living among them in their overflow.

Story
The grand truth of election takes us back to the beginning of all things. It predated the entrance of sin into the world, the fall of man, the incarnation of Christ, and the proclamation of the gospel. A correct understanding of it, especially in its relation to the everlasting covenant, is absolutely essential if we are to be kept from fundamental error. If the foundation be faulty, then the building erected upon it cannot be sound; and if we err in our conceptions of this basic truth, then in just proportion, so will our grasp of all other truth be inaccurate.

Summary
He who does not take the step of faith and enter upon the road to heaven will perish. It will be an awful thing to die close to yet outside the gate of life. Almost saved, but altogether lost! This is the most terrible of positions. A man just outside Noah’s ark would have drowned; a murderer close to the wall of the city of refuge, but outside of it, would be slain; and the man who is within a yard of Christ but has not trusted him will be lost.
Therefore, I am in terrible earnest to get my hesitating friends over the threshold. Come in! Come in! is my pressing plea. Why dost thou stand outside? is my solemn inquiry (Genesis 24:31). May the Holy Spirit render my pleadings effective with many who listen to this! May he cause his own almighty power to create faith in the soul at once.
If God blesses this book to you, do the writer this favor - either lend your own copy to someone who is lingering at the gate or buy another and give it away, for his great desire is that this little volume should be of service to many thousands of souls.
To God this book is commended, for without his grace nothing will come of all that is written.
About the Author
Charles Haddon (C. H.) Spurgeon (1834-1892) was a British baptist preacher. He started preaching at the age of 17 and quickly became famous. He is still known as the “prince of preachers” and frequently had more than 10,000 people present to hear him preach at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. His sermons were printed in newspapers, translated into many languages, and published in many books.

Narration does not keep pace with the book.
The sermon is excellent. Spurgeon really was a prince of Preachers. The narrator is good. He has the right tone, inflection, and style for this type of work, a historic sermon. The narrative, however, does not keep pace with the book. I'm afflicted with ADHD, and am finding age affecting my vision. The best solution is to listen and read at the same time. Immersion into a book this way is highly effective, because you're distracted by paying attention. You can't read this and listen at the same time, so if that makes a difference for you, buy either the Audible version, or the book. If you get both, don't use them at the same time and expect good results, because there just doesn't seem a speed of reading where they work together.
