Beate, die Ehefrau, hat keinen "reinen" Charakter und Mareile, die Geliebte, weit mehr als sexuelle Anziehungskraft. Es geht um eine pervertierte, gesellschaftliche Sexualordnung, in der alle zu Opfern werden - auch die Männer. Denn Günther von Tarniff liebt seine Frau. Und trotzdem ist auch für weibliche Hörer nachvollziehbar, warum er eine Beziehung mit Mareile anfängt.

Eduard Graf von Keyserling (1855-1918) war ein deutscher Schriftsteller und Dramatiker des Impressionismus. Er studierte Rechtswissenschaft, Philosophie und Kunstgeschichte und übersiedelte nach dem Studium nach München. Keyserling blieb zeitlebens unverheiratet.
