About this listen

Earth has been devastated by a comet.

Just before impact, alien caretakers collected human specimens and placed them in a wildlife preserve on an orbiting starship. A small group led by Sierra Preston and David Williams escaped, only to find the ruins of Earth inhabited by vicious creatures known as gorgers.

The group returned to the alien ship, determined to convince the caretakers to release the remaining human specimens and help them defeat the gorgers.

Unfortunately, the aliens have a different agenda.

THE PRESERVATION OF SPECIES trilogy comes to a thrilling conclusion in BEASTS OF PREY, a post-apocalyptic science-fiction adventure filled with unforgettable heroes, terrifying monsters, and heart-pounding action.

There are three possible reasons you are reading this review

1: You are interested in listening to the first part but didn’t want to do that until you had checked out how the whole thing ended. You are a cautious, but very wise, person.

2: You have listened to the first two parts and liked them enough to try the final part and just want to make sure the author didn’t go off the rails, go crazy, and just turned in a limp finish. He didn’t go crazy.

3: You like to start a trilogy with the final part and work your way backwards… you are a very strange person indeed.

So, regardless of why you are reading this review, how did the final part turn out?

Well it was very much a continuation of what went before, picking up where we left it, with the same pace and action that we have come to expect from the first two parts, while still managing to add new twists, more characters, and taking to the action to a new level. In fact all three parts can be best seen as one continuous story and not three self contained chapters. So listening to them close together is recommended.

The ending felt right and didn’t disappoint with its resolution and the journey through all three books was enjoyable and paid off well. The author kept up the pace well across all three book, but the middle part of book three seemed to take a bit of a dive from the action, but then you have to realise that characters can be stupid or not do what you think is the obvious choice at that time, so this part was just them being people doing people things and not what was occurring to you at the time. They quickly came to the conclusion that I had been thinking about for the previous couple of hours and the action quickly picked up again. Silly people.

One minor negative I did have was that I felt the sex scenes were a bit too much, and were out of place in the story as a whole with their level of descriptiveness. But as I said this was a very small negative and didn’t ruin the experience as a whole of this very enjoyable ending.

So yes, for whichever of the above reasons you are reading this review, this audio is worth your time and rounds out a very entertaining three audio series that I am glad I listened to.

Received this book free of monetary charge to give it an honest review but it still cost me that most valuable currency, time, and electricity of course. So I listened to the whole audio with my currency of time, and electricity, and have given an honest review of what I thought here.

Geoff Jones has done it.

What a fantastic trilogy and an incredible ending. Every step of the way I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was gonna happen next. A brilliant story, with realistic characters and a plot that keeps you hooked.

It's a shame it has come to an end, but I'm looking forward to seeing what Geoff can bring out next.
