Summary

In Battle for the Woodlands, Walde and the other Reachers struggle to restore one of the last great Mothertrees, their only link to the being deep in the earth, while enemies range against them. Without the Mothertrees, the Reachers' children cannot grow. This fact becomes personal when Walde discovers he will be a father.

I loved this & previous book

At the close of this book, the audio version, I feel both exhilarated and exhausted, but still ready to go again if ever a third book is issued.
A new favourite author for me. If, like me, you like to be taken on a journey along with the story, you'll love it, because a journey is exactly where it transports you, and doesn't let you off until the final word. Book one was equally as good.
Marvellous narration. Couldn't fault it.

A story that works on multiple levels

This is a thrilling and emotional sequel to "Silverlight", which explores the relationship between the characters and their efforts to deal with the harsh laws and destruction of the mothertrees, in the fascinating imaginary world described in the first book.

It strikes a good balance between action and reflection, with an intricate plot that also touches on the need to live in harmony with nature and the consequences of combating violence with violence.

The narrator is perhaps better suited to an American than an English audience, perhaps mainly because of the degree of pathos injected into his reading and use of unfamiliar accents to distinguish characters, but his interpretation of the text is reasonable and he is easy to understand. Increasing the playback speed made his voice sound more natural.

Fantasy at it's Best

This is the 2nd audiobook in the Greyling series and it's as good as the first.
It's very different to what I normally listen to but immersed myself in fantasy, you have the Reachers they are struggling as they get ready for battle to save the Mothertrees as without the trees the children would not grow and Wade finds out he is to be a father. Listening to this makes me feel like they are doing their bit to save the planet.
Well written by WK Greyling and narrated by Arthur Morey, both of which are new to me.

Unexpected outcome

It's even more up beat and thrilling as the first one, the action is non stop. I loved the story, the moral struggle, clinging to humanity in order to protect one's love. I almost wish there was a third book.

Change changes you.

The things that life will throw at you, that you totally don't expect, even as it gives, and takes, and changes you, are difficult to deal with. Walde is that character. Enjoyed this.
