Summary
Ray McKenna returns from the war in Iraq to find that she had attained unwanted celebrity status back home. As the only surviving American soldier of a well-publicized hostage crisis, she is the center of attention at a time when all she wants is solitude. Struggling to overcome the fear and anxiety that plague her, she relies on her psychiatric therapy dog Jagger to help her through the vicious symptoms of PTSD. Veterinarian Dr. Carly Warner hasn't yet figured out how to open her heart to the possibility of falling in love again after the death of her longtime partner. When Ray McKenna walks into the North Coast Veterinary Clinic with Jagger, she and Carly begin a friendship that takes them both by surprise. quality?
the story great and ptsd is still so misunderstood, I've all meghans' audible books but this recording is hard to get through ,made worse by the narration so not as enjoyable as others.

Loved the story, narration was awful
I preserved with this book for the sake of the story which I really enjoyed.
However the quality of the narration was terrible, you could hear where the edits had been spliced in and the volume levels kept jumping up and down. I also found that the narrator’s narration voice was a very nasally American accent, her character voices were fine.

Brilliant story, shame about the narrator
A moving story with great psychological insight. However, the writing, especially the dialogue, rarely achieves level as the story line.
It is such a shame but this audiobook is completely spoiled by poor narration. I slowed the narration speed down a bit, which helped, but Amanda Goodyear is not a good reader, plus her voice and style are not suited to this story which requires sensitivity. Thankfully, her narration does improve a little as the story progresses.
The production values of this audiobook are poor; they include varying sound levels and background noises.

Love this story.
This is one of my favourite books ever but I have to say the narration was not the best.
I persevered because I love the story so much and I guess I did get used to the narration after a while but it was nasally and annoying. I’m still glad I listened to it though on Audible. But unfortunately, this wasn’t one of the best narrations I’ve listened to.

Absolutely awful recording quality.
What would have made Battle Scars better?
I've read this book before and enjoyed it so I was pleased when the audiobook came out. But the quality of the recording is absolutely awful. Easily the worst recording I've listened to on audible. Surely there is some kind of quality control? It sounds like it's been recorded on a mobile phone that's got a bad signal. The volume is up and down throughout every sentence and it's painful to listen to. I couldn't listen to it for more than 10 minutes before I gave up. I'm returning the audio book which is very rare for me.

Not the best audio recording…
The story is a bit predictable and light on the deeper moments in the story which was a shame, however I still wanted to listen to a story that gave insight into a different world and O’Brien delivers on that front. The narrator really took me out of the story pretty much through most of the delivery. The narration was always loud and cheerful and the tone never seemed to land which was frustrating to listen to. I wish I’d read the book rather than listen to the audible version. The edit of the audio was also really poor - quick cuts of dialogue and clearly hearing when the recording stopped and began on new sentences was very jumpy which added to the frustrating narration. They say the best edits in a film film is when you don’t notice it. That’s true for audiobooks too.
