I have lived on London's piss-soaked streets, I have lived with the sweet embrace of heroin, I have lived when I should have died. I have lied, I have thieved, I have stripped, I have tricked, I have loved, I have fallen, I have survived.

I could be your daughter, your mother, your lover - I could be you.

Come to hell and back with me.

You have to read this book (Mick Jagger, creator of The Rolling Stones)
Unflinching and unforgettable
Lorna writes in a way that pulls you into her world and truly changes your perception of what the words 'strength' and 'endurance' mean . . . If you're lucky enough to come across this powerhouse of a filmmaker, you'll understand why (Cuba Gooding Jr.)
Deftly written... Her story is virtually unique because so few homeless people go on to flourish
A chronicle of her remarkable journey
A brave confrontation with the truths we ignore... Bare challenges and compels us to listen. I love everything Lorna creates (Haley Bennett, star of The Girl on the Train)
Rich and thought-provoking... Most memoirs are self-revealing, but Bare is unusual for its raw portrayal of experiences
One of the most incredible and interesting people around. I urge you to read this (Fearne Cotton, creator of Happy Place Book Club)
A rare and powerful look at teenage homelessness (Aja Barber, author of Consumed)
Masterpiece... An inspirational story and essential read showcasing the resilience of the human spirit (Juano Diaz, author of Slum Boy)

Bare was such a powerful and emotional read. I actually had the privilege of hearing Lorna Tucker speak at a homelessness conference in London last year and bought this book while listening to her talk. I only just got around to the audiobook now, but wow… what an unbelievably difficult life she has survived.

There were points where this was genuinely hard to listen to because of how raw and unfiltered her story is, but that honesty is also what makes it so impactful. Nothing feels dramatised or exaggerated; it just feels heartbreakingly real. I work in youth homelessness, which made parts of this hit even harder because I know not everyone gets the chance to come out the other side in the way Lorna has.

Despite how heavy parts of this memoir are, there’s also so much resilience, strength and humanity woven through it. It’s devastating at times, but ultimately incredibly powerful and unforgettable.

With something as powerful as this, I choose an audiobook as I really want to hear it in the author's words. It was heartbreaking to learn how life could so easily spiral for a teen. As a mother myself, I was yearning for her to phone her mum and go home. So much trauma to overcome and an important story of hope on the other side.

Such a powerful story and one that is so important to be heard

I couldn’t press pause on this clear eyed memoir of life as a teenage runaway. Narrated by author Lorna Tucker, her descriptions are vivid and cinematic, leading the listener by the hand into the shadow world of Soho she once inhabited.

Unflinching and never self pitying, this is not an ‘easy’ listen, but an important one. She skilfully threads together the events that led a troubled early teen into the wrong crowd, how one small catastrophe led to another, and how vulnerable so many troubled girls looking for love are to the nefarious intentions of predatory older men.

By the end my cheeks were wet and my solar plexus ached. I am full of admiration for the author. We must do more to stop young people falling through the cracks of society.

Gut wrenchingly brilliant and moving.

A cult book for future generations. Above and beyond all the junkie cliches of this type of literature.

So raw! So honest!

I wanted to listen to this book after hearing Lorna on Radio 4. Amazing story of a truly brave woman with a beautiful voice. Although it is a harrowing story, I carried on listening because I wanted to learn more about a life I know so little about. There but for the grace of god - I was brought up in a very privileged family, but I think no of us are so far away from a life like Lorna’s. Lorna, I hope you carry on living a calm and happy life.

Brave book, and a must listen
