A podcast about Science and Spirituality, Physics and Metaphysics, Biology, and Philosophy, brought to you by the Hanania brothers, Zach and Jordan. Here we study reality from all angles, exploring our inner subjective worlds and consciousness, and unpacking what we know about science. Our goal is to help people, and ourselves, gain a deeper understanding of life and what's really going on in this human experience, and to keep learning as we seek truth and continue discovering.

  • #14 - Brain Series - Part 2: Changing Our Energetic State through Stories, Meanings, and Focus
    Jul 30 2026

In part 2 of our state-change mini-series, Z&J dive deep into how the things we focus on, the language we use to assign meanings to events, and the self-talk we have with ourselves forms an identity - and how focus, meanings and the stories we tell ourselves have the ability to energize us or deplete us.

In the episode, we highlight a study done by Stanford University on Tony Robbins events and how the formula of State Change, Story Change, then Strategy Change can create lasting change due to neuroplasticity, especially when it comes to depression and anxiety.

We also discuss how certain types of meditations, plant medicines / psychedelics, learning new things, exercise and deep sleep also create the perfect condition for neuroplasticity (aka change in our lives!)

It is through Exercise, Learning, Deep Sleep, Psychedelic Therapy, and certain meditative practices that we can enter a state of neuroplasticity, and when we follow this state with the right Focus, Self-Talk, and Assigned Meanings to Events, we can far more easily and permanently make lasting change in our lives, to overcome depression, anxiety, bad habits, addictions, or phobias.

Join us as we get into the exciting concept of changing ourselves! Change is always possible. It just requires neuroplastic states of mind to be entered first (through physiological changes), and THEN followed up by telling new, more beneficial stories, assigning better meanings, and focusing on the right things. When we follow this general formula (Physiology change + Story Change + Meanings change + Focus Change = Healthy lasting Change), suddenly, change isn't so hard. Healthy habits become far easier to implement, and discipline feels lighter - even enjoyable - as our perspectives of what is pleasurable and what is painful change, thanks to the new stories we tell ourselves and the states of neuroplasticity we put our mind in through physiological practices like exercise, meditation, or plant medicines / psychedelic therapy.

  • #13 - Brain Series - Changing Our Energetic State - Part 1: Physiology
    Jul 29 2026

To kick off our ongoing series on the brain, Dr. Jordan and I are starting off with 2 episodes on changing our energetic state. Our state can be defined as the snapshot of our physiology and psychology in any given moment, based on the exact neurons firing in the brain at that moment. Our state determines the amount of energy we have in that given moment, and with heightened energy we can show up to everything important in life better, from relationships, to career/life's work, to hobbies. In this episode, we discuss 5 ways to increase the physiological portion of our state, to give us a heightened sense of energy: exercise, music, posture, radical changes in our physiology (like cold plunges or breathwork), and diet/nutrition. These physiological changes profoundly impact our psychology as well, thanks to the neurotransmitters they release while performing them, and the neuroplasticity (changeability) they allow in our brain during and after the time we are physically active. Managing our state goes beyond just physiological changes though: our focus and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, what events mean, and what type of world we live in deeply impact our energetic state, so in the next episode, we will dive into focus and stories and how these energize or deplete us. Lasting change is the result of first changing our physiological state so our brains can enter a state of neuroplasticity (changeability), and then choosing better focus and stories/meanings that energize us so we can show up for everything in life better.
