Before the Constitution and the establishment of our current government, America was governed by a different system. Many considered this system weak, but others believed it was the best option at the time. This system was known as the Articles of Confederation. Under this framework, the Continental Army and the Articles themselves were the law of the land, shaping how the colonies operated. However, the Articles proved to be too weak, leaving too much power unchecked and creating the risk of a new dictator or monarch rising to power. Recognizing these issues, the founders decided to adopt a constitutional approach and drafted the Constitution of the United States. Welcome back to Constitutionally Educated!
