The very first poem I wrote was inspired by my daughter, Asha Iman McAfee, whose radiant spirit lives in every part of this book. Through poems of loss, faith, resilience, and love, I offer pieces of myself and my experiences—before and after Hurricane Katrina, through spiritual seeking, and in honor of my ancestors and community.
