A family secret.
A forbidden love.
A world about to change forever.
Cambridgeshire
In 1913, fifteen-year-old Kate Linton’s life is upended when her father dies suddenly and her mother becomes too ill to care for her. Sent to live with wealthy relatives she has never met, Kate arrives at Brockmere House in Cambridgeshire, a world far removed from her old life.
As she slowly adjusts to her new life, she forms a close bond with the charming Harry Redfern, a relationship which soon deepens. But during a visit to London, Kate is startled to see a woman she is convinced is her mother leaving an elegant dress shop. When Kate calls out, the woman briefly looks at her before driving away. Harry later learns the woman was believed to be French.
Months later, news arrives that her mother has died, but Kate refuses to accept it. Haunted by what she saw, she begins to question the truth.
As war approaches, she must choose between moving on or uncovering what her mother may have been hiding.
