About this listen

Good afternoon. Texas. I'm Aaron Jolly. Eighty-two degrees under overcast skies right now. And we're not even close to the daytime high. South Texas tops out at a toasty 91 degrees this afternoon. That's 54 degrees above normal for early March. Happy Texas Independence Day, indeed. In the next 24 hours. Central Texas sits at 84 degrees with a chance of thunderstorms developing between 1 P.M. and 8 P.M. The Gulf Coast reaches 81 with a slight chance of storms early this afternoon. North Texas hits 80 degrees with scattered storms possible through this evening. Tonight, lows settle into the upper 60s statewide. That blanket of clouds sticks around. And under that full moon, it'll feel more like late May than early March. Thursday brings more warmth — highs again in the low to mid-80s — but the real story arrives Friday. A cold front sweeps in. And storm chances ramp up significantly. We're talking widespread showers and thunderstorms Friday through the weekend. Some could be strong to severe, especially Saturday. Tornado season starts in just 11 days. This weekend's pattern is a reminder that severe weather season is knocking on the door. The active pattern continues into early next week. Rain chances persist Monday and Tuesday as a cutoff low drifts across Texas. Could see some locally heavy rainfall totals by the time this wraps up. For now, enjoy the early taste of spring. But keep an eye on the sky this weekend. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
