Spring makes an early appearance. Providence climbs to 54 degrees this afternoon — that's 27 degrees above normal for early March. Down along Narragansett Bay, expect a high near 47 degrees with a gentle southwest breeze. Both areas see mostly sunny skies, perfect for getting outside. In the next 24 hours. But Tonight, temperatures drop fast. Providence falls to 27 degrees. The Bay dips to 28. Fog rolls in after 11 P.M., so watch for slick spots on your Thursday morning commute. Thursday brings a soggy turn. Rain becomes likely by afternoon — a a chance statewide. Highs only reach 39 degrees. Then Thursday night. The mess really arrives. A Winter Weather Advisory kicks in at 5 P.M. For northwest Rhode Island. We're talking rain, sleet, freezing rain, even some snow mixing in overnight. Up to two inches of snow and sleet possible, plus a light glaze of ice. Friday stays gray and raw with highs near 35 degrees and lingering rain. Here's the good news. The weekend turns a corner. Saturday rebounds to 53 degrees. Sunday hits 54. And next week? Even warmer. Monday reaches 58 degrees. Tuesday pushes 62 degrees under mostly sunny skies. One more thing — tonight's a full moon. Step outside after sunset and you'll see it rising through any clearing clouds. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight each day now. And the spring equinox sits just two weeks away.
