About this listen
Can this marriage of convenience overcome the shadows from the past?
Helena Angiers is grateful for a quick bolt to the Scottish border and the opportunity to keep her unborn child, but she has no intention of abandoning the memories of her first love. And yet, the more she learns about her new husband, Ralph Aldine, the more she wonders why such a kind, considerate, and capable man would marry her. Can it be possible that he married her for herself and that her money had nothing to do with it?
Lowly solicitor Ralph Aldine has adored Helena Angiers from the moment he set eyes on her. His blood boils when he thinks about how his late half-brother, Will, took advantage of her, but what can he say when she still considers the man who stole her innocence a paragon of virtue? As more unsavory details from his brother’s past emerge, Ralph is forced to leave his new wife in the north and travel to London. There, he is enmeshed in a criminal investigation at the King’s Theatre where, if he’s to avoid the gallows, he’ll need the help of Bow Street Runner, Jacob Pevensey. But will Helena sit quietly in Northumberland while her husband is imprisoned in Newgate?
This novel takes the medieval events surrounding the death of Rosamond Clifford, mistress of Henry II, and transposes them into a Regency-era murder mystery full of swoon-worthy romance. It is the fourth audiobook in the Pevensey Mysteries and would be best enjoyed in sequence.
