About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
No one sets out to be a bad boss. But some bosses out there really do give it all they’ve got. One in four of us feel like we are currently working for our worst boss ever. That not only has a huge impact on our enjoyment of the job, but our productivity also plummets, which surely is no good for anyone!
The problem is, when you are stuck with a job or boss you don’t like, you are given the same two pieces of advice; either suck it up or go off and find a new job, which costs you time and a whole lot of headspace, and costs businesses too!
My Boss is a Moron is all about the third way.
Serial entrepreneur and content creator Ben Askins shows you how to handle a terrible boss, make the best of a bad situation and still come out on top.
Taking you through the entire lifecycle of work from job descriptions and interviews, to pay rises, promotions, annual leave and so much more, My Boss is a Moron pulls back the curtain on why companies and bosses make the choices they make, and what you can do to give yourself the best possible chance of success.
With outrageous real boss stories and Askins’ beloved sarcasm and humour, My Boss is a Moron is as entertaining as it is helpful and is designed to help you sidestep silly company policies and terrible management to ensure that you thrive at work, no matter the circumstances.
'Annoyingly funny, phenomenally helpful' - Chris Donnelly

Enjoyable and very useful!

Having seen Ben’s TikTok’s I knew despite the dodgy title of the book (the only thing I think feels a bit dodgy - how do I share this with my team safely??) I knew this would give me the much needed advice and reassurance I needed with my next steps.
Not every chapter in my current employment was needed, but I still found the information really useful and I think this is going to be a book that can work for decades without needing revising!
Ben has this way of thinking and treating workers like proper humans with lives not just a payroll number and a person you nod and say morning to but have no idea who they are!
I found the information provided aligned with my own way of thinking around leadership and work ethic - I’m not in a leadership role despite 10 years at the company and an abundance of skills, knowledge and experience - and it’s all down to the culture and development opportunities being dependent on if your face fits.
I honestly feel like I’ve been empowered to take hold of my career development and own it, instead of allowing someone else to dictate my worth, and this gem of a book is my guidebook to making that happen!
This book is exactly what everyone stuck in a workplace where they feel disrespected, overlooked and neglected needs!
This is the book you need!

more for the boss

Lots of aspects don’t relate well to public sector work (you can’t ask for rises and promotions almost never happen). But the nuts and bolts explanations on how to approach your one to one meetings, annual reviews and how to follow up, plus the recruitment process information are invaluable.
Off to attend to my CV and update my LinkedIn profile with my real role and not what only is on my JD.
Ben, we want more. No, the entire workforce needs more!
Make you think about your current job!
