An August heatwave is perhaps not the right moment to tackle Graham Greene's midwinter train journey to Istanbul; the motley cast of characters; or Michael Maloney's slightly heavy handed characterisations. The problem probably not the text, or the narrator, but me. Hopefully others will enjoy this iteration of what is described as one of Greene's 'lighter' works. Perhaps I'll have another go in the dark midwinter...
