About this listen

The time has come! Book seven in the best-selling Dungeon Crawler Carl series is here!

They call it Faction Wars.

The ninth floor.

Nine armies, each led by rich and powerful aliens from across the galaxy. Each team has one objective: to capture and hold the castle at the very center of the battlefield. Strategy, alliances, pitched battles, and, of course, betrayal ... It all makes for great fun and even greater television.

After all, none of these powerful aliens really die when they’re playing war.

Except this time. This time, winner takes all. Those who fall, stay in the ground.

As the AI continues its rapid decline, Carl and company take advantage of the chaos. For the first time ever, the crawlers are fighting back. They are now one of the nine teams. And this season, there’s a tenth army on the playing field. The NPCs, who are normally used as nothing but cannon fodder, have become fully self-aware and formed a team of their own.

For Donut and Katia, the stakes are even higher. Only one of them will be allowed to leave this level.

If they all want to survive, they’re going to need a little help from a veteran or two.

This is it.

This is what they’ve been fighting toward.

This is war.

This inevitable ruin.

All I can say is he does manage to “Carl it up” lol
I’m still laughing out loud (don’t do that often) I genuinely think this amongst one of my fav instalments.

DCC is top tier for the genre and audiobook format. Matt’s writing and Jeff’s + Travis narration is a dream team. The Canadian accent was the perfect comedic accompaniment.

It has it all

This series is just amazing! If you're looking at book 7, you don't need me to tell you that.

Spectacular!

Another brilliant book brought to life by Jeff Hays. Now the wait begins for the next instalment. Probably the darkest DCC too date, but still sprinkles of humour there to bring a smile

Why can’t there be 6 stars for performance

I've grown to love this series, and was excited to see Carl and Donut finally reach the ninth floor, but was slightly disappointed by how it all played out. For some giant high stakes battle royal against the alien leaders, Carl's victories felt a little too easy and convenient (for the most part). Admittedly the reasoning for this is explained and it resulted in seeing some interesting new perspectives from other characters; but I can't help but feel Matt hyped up this floor a little too hard considering what we got.

It's still a highly enjoyable listen all the same, and I'm left longing for book eight, but I'd argue this might be one of the weakest DCC entries so far.

Good, but slightly underwhelming

I started at the series on a whim, I am now on my fist continuous listen through of all seven books of which this easily keeps up the standard.

it is an astonishing piece of work.

Matt Dinniman's genius saga continues unabated! absolute golddust
