About this listen

The next in the wonderfully warm and uplifting series set on the New Forest Puddleduck Farm

How can life be too busy for love?

Phoebe Dashwood is living the dream. She’s running her own successful vet practice, Puddleduck Vets, alongside her grandmother’s animal sanctuary.

She’s also dating the gorgeous, yet slightly broken Rufus Holt, the most eligible bachelor in the New Forest.
So why isn’t she blissfully happy?

Both Phoebe and Rufus are consumed 24/7 by their own commitments. Their relationship is always last on the list.

Phoebe juggles quirky, yet demanding clients and their pets whilst widowed Rufus is consumed by his anxieties, responsibilities of fatherhood and the unenviable tasks of being a Lord in waiting with a huge estate to manage.

Phoebe knows that when you’re a vet, there isn’t always a happy ending. But will there be a happy ending for Phoebe, Rufus and everyone else at Puddleduck Farm?

Is it ever really possible to have it all?

Upliftiing, poignant and feel-good ficiton, perfect for the fans of Alison Sherlock, Sarah Hope and Lisa Hobman

Parts of this and Phoebe's personal journey during this book were verging on depressingly unfair and frustrating on behalf of her character and women everywhere, a great ending however made up for this in spades. Also enjoyed hearing about the Alpacas and some of the more amusing vet stories. And the reading of the tea leaves was definitely a top moment.

Thank goodness for the ending

The characters are all endearing and you cant help but be engrossed in the plots and twists. The setting is perfect too.

Love the animal content. The considered, long term thinking applied to the variety and complexity of relationships of all kinds, so rare in genre fiction. Both female and male characters have equal agency. Phoebe is a capable confidant professional and is never made to apologise or moderate this for others. Good representation of family dynamics.
Like the balance between romance plot and life/animal content. More horses please!
Id prefer it if some of these relationships weren’t heteronormative (without that being a plot point or an “issue.”)
Cass reads well, as always. Very calming and unobtrusive.

Pro active Confidant female protagonist 🙌🏻
