About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

An Indian clerk, Girija Krishnan, sees the opportunity of his lifetime when he stumbles on an abandoned cache of arms hidden in the Malayan jungle. If he can sell the weapons, he will be able to achieve his lifelong dream of owning a bus company - although the penalty for gun-running is death. Soon his decision becomes the catalyst for a chain of events involving an entrepreneurial Chinese family, a corrupt Colonel and, finally, a naïve couple of American tourists who find themselves horribly out of their depth.

Written from multiple perspectives this tale about the machinations surrounding a forgotten cache of communist weapons in Malaysia is insightful and highly entertaining.

An unusual tale from a forgotten piece of history

Loved this book. A great story and well paced although it could have been improved had the narrator made an effort with characters voices, a tad confusing that the American, English and Malay characters all have the same accents, oherwise I'd say it was brilliant.

My favourite Eric Ambler story

This is the 4th Eric Ambler I’ve listened to. Not my favourite. The story involves financial transactions I found hard to follow. Also there are a lot of characters which I struggled to keep distinct from one another. I recommend the marvellous “Light of Day”, but not this one, sadly.

Rather involved - hard to follow
