About this listen

A maritime mystery from Edward Marston, author of the best-selling Railway Detective series.

September 1907. George Dillman sets sail from Liverpool to New York on the Lusitania's maiden voyage. Posing as a passenger, Dillman is in fact an undercover detective hired by the Cunard Line to keep an eye out for petty crimes. But after some uneventful days aboard, the ship’s blueprints are stolen and then a body is found.

As Dillman works to get to the bottom of the crimes, he makes an unusual friend, first-class passenger Genevieve Masefield, and the two uncover secrets aboard the ship that prove explosive.

The Lusitania was a British ocean liner that was sunk in 1915 by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland, killing 1,198 passengers and crew. Lusitania held the Blue Riband prize for the fastest Atlantic crossing and was briefly the world's largest passenger ship until the completion of the Mauretania.

Previously published under the name Conrad Allen, the Ocean Liner series is relaunched for a new generation of listeners.

I have listened to one of Edward Marston railway stories, which I enjoyed, but I must say this was even better as he created a wonderful sense 0f place and so many characters.
The narrator James Langton was fantastic. He got every accent perfectly. In fact I am putting him up with my favourite narrator Jonathan Keeble. I shall looking out for him reading other books

Great Fun

Working at home I've listened to all the railway detective books and thought I'd try this series too. I'll be buying more.

A really enjoyable story.

I spent the first half of the book enjoying the setting and some of the characters but waiting for a murder. Rest assured it does come and it is a mystery worth unraveling.

Bit of a slow burn but a good cosy mystery

Having been listening to a run of modern visceral crime thrillers I found myself luxuriating on board the Lusitania! It’s both well written & wonderfully read .. I failed to guess who had done it , the story was tied together very well and the characters interesting. Indeed I am soon to start book 2 in the series- highly enjoyable

I really enjoyed this !

It’s a nice listen, with an excellent narrator. It was just missing a little sprinkle of Golden Age magic. I want to hear more though as it’s enjoyable.

Something lacking
