About this listen

Theft of Swords contains The Crown Conspiracy and Avempartha, books 1 and 2 of Riyria Revelations. The Crown Conspiracy is the first book in the captivating Riyria Revelations.

They killed the king. They pinned it on two men. They chose poorly.

There is no ancient evil to defeat, no orphan destined for greatness, just two guys in the wrong place at the wrong time. Royce Melborn, a skilled thief, and his mercenary partner, Hadrian Blackwater, make a profitable living carrying out dangerous assignments for conspiring nobles until they become the unwitting scapegoats in a plot to murder the king. Sentenced to death, they have only one way out...and so begins this tale of treachery and adventure, sword fighting and magic, myth and legend. Avempartha is the second of a six book series entitled the Riyria Revelations.

The secret is in the tower. The problem is the beast. The answer is two thieves.

When a destitute young woman hires Royce and Hadrian to help save her remote village from nocturnal attacks, they are once more drawn into the schemes of the wizard Esrahaddon. While Royce struggles to breech the secrets of an ancient elven tower, Hadrian attempts to rally the villagers to defend themselves against the unseen killer. Once more, what begins with the simple theft of a sword places the two thieves at the center of a firestorm - but this time the outcome could change the future of Elan.

Harris, Ken Jackson, Colleen Delany, Andy Clemence, Nanette Savard, Michael John Casey, Andy Brownstein, Todd Scofield, Amanda Forstrom, Bruce Alan Rauscher, Chris Stinson, Dylan Lynch, Henry Kramer, Jonathan Feuer, Richard Rohan, Jeff Allin, Terence Aselford, Ren Kasey, Lawrence Redmond, Andrew Quilpa, Michael Glenn, Nora Achrati, Bradley Smith, Christopher Walker, Nick DePinto, Mort Shelby.

What’s not to like about Sullivan’s writing?
The voice actors are doing a good job.
But the background noise … There is a “white noise” throughout the audiobook, and sometimes it’s louder than the voices! It sounded like a bad recording from the time of cheap cassettes.

Amazing story and narrating, terrible sound

Book 1: The Crown Conspiracy by Michael J. Sullivan.

What a great first book to start of the year with a bang, my first time adventuring into Michael J Sullivan's books and damn in was fantastic. The Crown Conspiracy is the first book in Riyria Revelations series. It was one wild ride from start to finish, its action packed, has a wonderful plot of betrayal and mystery, The relationship between two of the main characters, Royce and Hadrian, was a pleasure to read and had me in stitches with laughter at the quirky comedy between the two. Set in the world Elan Royce Melborn, a skilled thief, and his mercenary partner, Hadrian Blackwater make a profitable living carrying out dangerous assignments for conspiring nobles. When offered a job that can set them up for the year, it's an offer they can't refuse, but it may just cost them their lives for a murder they didn't commit. Absolutely fantastic fun story with it excellent characters that you will love and hate, now for the second book. Very highly recommended...😁💙⚔️🗡🪓

Book 2: Avempartha by Michael J. Sullivan.

Damn, that was fantastic follow up to the first book The Crown Conspiracy, Avempartha is another brilliant tale of adventure and of daring escapades. Like the first book, this was another absolute page turner and very thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. Michael J. Sullivan is a very gifted and talented author. The series gets better with each book he writes and gives a new twist to the plot and the characters development with each book. The worldbuilding is excellent, its action packed and just a very fun world that the author has created for us to get lost in and escape from the real world we live in. I absolutely love Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater, the camaraderie between the two is a joy to read. In this book Avempartha the church continues their political machines with murder and religious influences to find a new heir to the Empire. Our two favourite thief's are offered a job in a small village being terrorized by a monster where people are disappearing daily. But our deadly duo might have just bitten of more than they can chew. Just brilliant, this book and series is definitely the place for fantasy readers to be, I very highly recommend...😁💙⚔️🔥

Absolutely awesome.

I read the physical series 14 years ago and loved it (thanks to Michael J Sullivan for sending me a free copy of Theft of Swords back then and introducing me to his awesome storytelling!), so reliving it as a dramatized audio adaptation was very enjoyable and nostalgic for me. All the voices are perfect for their respective characters, and I became attached to them quite quickly. I disagree with one reviewer about Royce's voice not sounding as imagined; he sounded just like the clever and sometimes mysterious Royce that I remember, and the voice matched what was in my head years ago. Though I somewhat understand, I also disagree with another reviewer who criticized the narrator as sounding monotonous and bored; that's actually the point and what is needed with narration. Because he isn't playing a character, he can't let his voice get in the way and sound like a part of the story. I think the narrator did an excellent job, enunciating appropriately and sounding involved without being actually involved. Kudos to Michael J Sullivan and all the cast! I loved it and will be eagerly listening to the rest of the series and all his other dramatized adaptations too!
