A Fantastic way to celebrate a Centenary!

Being a great fan of Dick King-Smith's books, I was excited when I first heard about this many months before. And I could think of no better way of celebrating what would have been his 100th birthday than this.

Josie, I feel, has every right to feel pleased by finishing what her great-grandfather had started. She's done such a good job of matching his writing style - with all its twists and turns, the subtle humour and likeable characters - that it's impossible to tell any difference at all. And the narration by Samuel West was just as perfect. No music or sound effects were needed: his delivery and tone helped to carry the story exactly as it is.

In fact, the highlight for me - whether it was Josie's thinking or Dick's - was learning that several characters from one of Dick's earliest books, 'Magnus Powermouse', were brought back as major supporting roles here. Dick very rarely includes continuity between his books, so this was a pleasant surprise indeed. The new characters were just as lovely, one of which manages to paint foxes in a very positive light (depending your thoughts on them!).

In short, I hope that this opens new doors for Josie Rogers' future career as a writer. She's more than proved herself here 😄
